Hello World! Welcome Friends! These days, it seems like much of the United States is being overtaken by factories, office buildings, stores, gas stations, and other businesses. Houses and apartment buildings are cropping up everywhere. What little land is left is being paved over to build roads for people to get to all those places. Wide-open spaces are dwindling, and that’s certainly not a welcome change for outdoor aficionados. After all, it feels like there’s little left of the great outdoors to truly enjoy at this point.
Still, there are a few places that haven’t been completely consumed by urban development. Northern Idaho is among them. Sure, it has plenty of businesses. Employment, shopping, and dining opportunities are plentiful. There’s ample entertainment for couples, families, retirees, and everyone else to enjoy. You’ll also find an array of north idaho real estate for sale. Besides all that, the area is still a dream destination for outdoor lovers with endless opportunities for enjoying the beauty and excitement of nature. Here are some of the reasons why.
Wonderful Weather
For one, Northern Idaho has beautiful weather for everyone to enjoy. In the summer, the area is warm, dry, and sunny. Though there’s a certain amount of humidity, it’s nothing like the oppressively heavy air of the South and certain other regions. It doesn’t get quite as overbearingly hot as it does in some areas, either. In fact, 86 degrees Fahrenheit is the typical high. Though the temperature sometimes creeps above 90, that’s not the summertime norm.
When winter rolls around, temperatures take a turn. Extreme lows can range into the 20s, which is pretty cold, but it doesn’t necessarily feel as cold as it actually is. If you love snow, this would definitely be a great place to call home. Average snowfalls in the area range from about 40 to 70 inches depending on the year and where in Northern Idaho you are. That’s just a rough estimate, though. Some years don’t see nearly as much.
During the in-between seasons, you’ll see equally beautiful weather. In autumn, the area blazes with gorgeous oranges, yellows, reds, and golds. Leaves usually start to change in October. Spring comes alive with lovely green foliage and flowers. As mentioned, there’s still plenty of natural landscape around to fully showcase all those wonders. Its weather is just as diverse as some of its other strong suits.
Breathtaking Landscapes
Another aspect that draws people to Northern Idaho is the area’s breathtaking landscape. Wooded areas abound with plenty of walking and hiking trails to spend your time on. You could spend hours just wandering through the woods and marveling in their beauty and peace. It makes you feel like you’re in an entirely different world, especially in the fall with all the colorful leaves surrounding you.
Lakes and rivers are also abundant in the area. Lakes Pend Oreille and Coeur d’Alene as well as Priest, Fernan, Hauser, and Hayden Lakes are only a few of them. When the weather is warm, you can swim, fish, and enjoy any number of watersports at these locales. Spirit Lake and Twin Lakes are sometimes perfect for ice skating in the winter. Waterfalls and rivers are part of the picture too. Of course, the mountains of Northern Idaho shouldn’t be ignored. They’re absolutely stunning from a distance and even more amazing up close.
Outdoor Activities
Considering the natural local landscapes in all their beauty and diversity, there are countless outdoor activities to enjoy in Northern Idaho. In terms of the watersports alluded to earlier, there are kayaking, canoeing, swimming, boat rides, waterskiing, paddleboarding, and many other options at your disposal. If there’s a water-based activity you enjoy, you’re likely to find it. For adventure-seekers, whitewater rafting is a great choice. This area is also a dream come true for the anglers among us with a variety of fishing venues to choose from.
Camping is also a terrific local pastime. Several campgrounds grace the area, each one with its own unique features and amenities. They’ll give you a chance to get away from everyday life and truly appreciate a little peace and quiet. If you don’t want to go to a designated campground with modern luxuries like electricity and Wi-Fi, you’ll find plenty of camping spots off the beaten path. Either way, while you’re camping, you can venture out to the local hiking trails, enjoy watersports and fishing, go mountain biking, and find endless other ways to revel in the outdoors.
Golf Courses
Northern Idaho is known for its amazing golf courses as well. If you want to spend your days golfing, this is definitely the place for you. It caters to golfers of all skill levels, and it’ll give you a chance to hone your craft. Some of the golf courses in the area are Priest River Ranch, Pinehurst, The Links, Twin Lakes Village, Sandpoint Elks, Shoshone, Galena Ridge, and Avondale. Those are only a few of the ones you can choose from, and each one is a different experience. While you’re golfing, you’ll still be able to take in the area’s gorgeous landscapes.
Making Northern Idaho Your Home
Northern Idaho is a dream destination for people who love the outdoors. It speaks to vacationers and people looking for a fresh start alike. Many who come for a visit don’t want to leave. Some even come back and make the area their permanent home. If you’re looking for one of those few places left in America with plenty of wide-open spaces, there’s no need to look any further.
Whether you’re looking for the right place to retire to or hoping to find a perfect place to raise a family, Northern Idaho may be exactly what you need. Its beautiful weather, natural landscapes, and all its outdoor activities make it a fantastic place for nature lovers of all ages. You can even pass on your love of nature to the next generation here. From camping and fishing to hiking and literally walking in a winter wonderland, it’s all possible in this wonderful portion of the United States.
