Hello World! Welcome Friends! The snow is really piling up outside—and though it might seem like the time to pour it on and pour it out and keep on telling someone, there are other things to do. For example, clear the walkway outside so that emergency workers can make it into your house if necessary, and people passing by can do so. However, timing matters. You can have the best electric snow shovel to make the work easier, but the right timing contributes as well.
What Are the Issues With Shoveling Snow?
Most of us have been in a situation where falling snow barricades the house entrance from the outside. You don’t want this to happen, do you? In addition, there might be requirements that you have to keep the walkway to your property clean and passable, as well as the entrance to your door, should you need an emergency service.
Minimizing the effort is also important, given how many health issues show right while someone shovels the snow. There are thousands of health issues and dozens (if not hundreds) of fatalities each year, and you don’t want to join them. An electric shovel can make the job easier, but still, you need to think about when to shovel snow to make it work the most efficient way.
When Is It Not the Best Time to Shovel?
There are some factors that might seem counterintuitive, yet they matter when you choose the time to shovel snow. You might think it can wait or, on the contrary, that the job is urgent. In both cases, there are things to consider, which might change your mind when thought of.
- How do you feel? If you feel sick or weak, you’d better wait for a little while, especially if you aren’t used to physical work. Too much effort might harm your health.
- Don’t wait for the snowfall to end. It might seem like you’re doing some senseless job. However, if the snowfall is too long (Hey Siri, when will the snowfall end?), you’d better not wait until it stops.
- Sometimes, though, it’s better to wait even if it’s over. First, you don’t need to do it in the dark. Second, if it’s not a public space, you can wait until the snow partly melts or the wind blows it away.
- Don’t wait until the day after the snowfall. The snow is heavier then, and there’s more of it. The stats confirm that most lethal incidents related to snow shoveling happen right the day after the snowfall.
When to Shovel Then?
The right time depends on the conditions and on which part of your property you’re going to shovel. The general, rules are the following:
- Minimize the effort. Don’t wait until the snow is heavy and wet. It makes sense to go out in the middle of the snowfall and clear the walkway even if it’s going to snow for hours more. As for your backyard, it can wait to save the strain.
- Find the moment when the snow is the most lightweight. As time goes by, it gets wetter or denser. You’d better not wait until that moment.
- If the forecast promises sun or wind soon, shovel snow when the weather has done half the work for you.
In short, you might need to do it as soon as you notice it’s harder to walk through the snow, even though it’s still falling. Repeat the procedure when enough snow accumulates. These repetitions will keep you warmed up but not exhausted. Take care of both those around you and of yourself: Shovel the snow while the mission is possible!
