Hello World! Welcome Friends! It’s likely you own one or more air conditioning units in your home, or you probably have a central system installed. Whichever the case may be, the truth is that your home or office may likely not be as comfortable and conducive as it is now if you didn’t have them. Given this, isn’t it critical that you ensure they continue to work at their best at all times?
Many do not bother to have these systems checked unless they have developed some problems. This should not be the case. The purpose of this article is to help you understand why air conditioning repair needs to be part of the regular maintenance routines scheduled in your home or office.
How Air Conditioners Work
The first thing we will do is start by briefly explaining how your AC works. If you are a visual learner, you can watch a video presentation of this here. Since this is not an engineering class, we shall keep the explanation nice and simple.
Here’s the general idea of what exactly your air conditioning unit does. It removes hot air from a space and replaces it with cooler air. This is a highly simplified description of what it does, really more like a summary or the end result.
Now How Does it Do This?
The outcome described above is built around the operations of a special chemical that possesses the ability to quickly change from liquid to gas and back. It’s like a continuous cycle of constant change. It is this chemical that picks up the heat from inside your home or office and then transfers them outside.
Three important parts are involved in this process – the compressor, the condenser and the evaporator. What you have inside your home or office is the evaporator part of the system. The condenser and compressor are located in the part outside.
Remember the chemical we spoke about earlier, the one that quickly changes form? Well, when this chemical gets to the compressor it is in a low-pressure gaseous state. As its name implies, the compressor compresses the gas causing their molecules to get squeezed together. This causes increased excitement among the molecules as they collide among themselves more frequently given the reduced space between them. This increased activity causes an increase in both temperature and energy.
By the time the chemical leaves the compressor, it is hot and full of energy. They move from the compressor to the condenser where this heat is dissipated through the part in the condenser known as metal fins. These fins act as heat radiators, passing off the heat generated to the environment.
When the chemical leaves the condenser, it does so at a much lower temperature and has changed back to its very cold liquid form. From there it moves to the evaporator located inside the house. At this point, there is a pressure drop that forces a change from liquid to gaseous form. This is called phase conversion and you can read about it here: https://home.howstuffworks.com/ac1.htm. It is also during this process that the heat in the room is extracted. The metal fins in the evaporator perform the same act but this time, the heat in the room is exchanged for the coolness of the chemical.
At each end of the system, there is a fan that aids the circulation of air – cold air at the evaporator point and hot air at the condenser point. The process is repeated over and over again and that is how your home or office is cooled by your air conditioning system.
Why You Need To Service Them Regularly
When a system works as described above every day, there are sure to arise a few issues. These could be simple issues of wear and tear or maintenance tasks that need to get done to ensure continued performance.
There are about five major parts that require regular attention. Failure to do this will eventually result in the system not working to full capacity or totally breaking down. Let’s look at these five components.
Filters
The filters located in the evaporator can get clogged with dust and dirt. These should be cleaned often to ensure they do not restrict air flow as this will hamper the performance of the AC.
Evaporator Coils
These also need to be cleaned regularly because they can also accumulate dirt and dust over time.
Drain Pipes
These pipe help drain water from the system. If they get clogged by dirt or anything, the system will underperform and can eventually back up.
Fans
The external fan needs to consistently perform optimally to avoid overheating of the condenser unit. Care needs to be taken to ensure it continually works optimally.
Condenser
Your condenser can get damaged when compressor oils combine with moisture to form corrosive compounds. Experienced companies like Your Air Co. make use of a process known as chemical cleaning to ensure this does not happen.
These are some of the first things that any experienced technician will ensure are working optimally. Of course, there could other issues like a leakage of the refrigerant. These are however not regular maintenance issues.
Conclusion
If you are serious about ensuring that your air conditioning unit continues to function optimally, it is important that you have a professional from Air Conditioning Repair Denver CO who will be taking a look at it after every few months.
