Hello World! Welcome Friends! Wine is an alcoholic beverage in a league of its own. It’s long and rich history dates back to B.C. It’s a drink that quickly became a staple in every home. Unlike harsh alcohol, wine has health benefits and complements many of your favorite foods.
Where It All Begins
Wine begins as grapes in a vineyard. They are harvested and then picked by hand and taken to a mill where they become crushed and juiced. Creating fine wines is a labor of love with many failed attempts until reaching your desired taste. While not as harsh or potent as other alcohol, consuming large amounts can cause a wine hangover.
Types of Wine
There are literally more than a thousand wine grapes allowing for the creation of similar yet distinct tastes. Tastes can range from light and sweet to robust and savory. While the list of wines is seemingly endless, there are several common ones, popular among consumers. The list of the most sought after includes Chardonnay, Riesling, Pinot Grigio, Sauvignon Blanc, Zinfandel, and Merlot.
Selecting the Right Wine
If you’re a beginner, finding the right wine to pair well and complement your meal can be difficult. With the local liquor store featuring hundreds of wines across a multitude of shelves, the process can seem unachievable. However, understanding the different qualities of red wine versus white wine and sweetness versus bold will help you narrow the search down considerably. In most cases, white wines are lighter and fruitier than red wine.
Enhance Your Food
Wine at the table goes back thousands of years. New Yorkers and people visiting the city often like to take Long Island wine tours where they learn how pairing the flavor of the wine to your entree creates an enjoyable meal. In order to find the ideal match, you first have to select the main course for your dinner and then determine whether the meal presented is heavy or light and bitter or sweet. As a general rule, to simplify the process, focus on six traits: fat, spice, whether sweet or bitter, salt, and acid content. Once you break the food down into one or two of these traits you can then select a wine that complements. If you’re still in a fog over what wine you should serve, ask a friend, or research online.
Tells a Story
Each bottle of wine has a distinct history. Coming from various locations around the world, the taste in part derives from the environment and geography. Wine connoisseurs can often describe its origins simply by tasting.
Good for Your Health
Consuming wine at moderate levels, a glass a day, can provide many benefits to your health. Rich in antioxidants, it aids in the reduction of inflammation which can prevent heart disease and certain cancers. It also lowers blood pressure and bad cholesterol. Wine may also fend off depression and promote longevity and healthy bacteria in the gut.
Socially Acceptable
It is by far at the top of the socially accepted beverages list. It’s the drink of choice used to celebrate special occasions and events in your life. You can find it at weddings, birthdays, graduations, anniversaries and all major holidays.
It Makes You Feel Good
If you ask any person who consumes wine on the regular why they drink it the answer is uniform, it makes them feel good. It’s not a drink that will cause you to stumble after one glass, yet it brings out a calmness and deep inner satisfaction of your being. Of course, you can go overboard and lose control if you ingest an entire bottle on your own.
Wine is something that many people enjoy. It has a long history that dates back to 4000 B.C. and many different types are available to satisfy your taste buds.
