Hello World! Welcome Friends! Today, most countries in the world have embraced civilization. In countries like Canada, Australia, the United States of America and Europe as a whole, people are working to cultivate positive, change driven by the community and one neighborhood. However, we cannot achieve all these by a simple word of mouth but by people putting in a real effort to ensure that they happen.
In this article, we look at some of the ways that we can measure and improve urban sustainability.
1. Proper Governance
For an effective neighborhood-scale sustainable development, there must be good governance. The Urban Sustainability movement emphasizes the need to have innovative, transparent and collaborative action if we are not seeing any changes. Going by the name “collaborative governance,” the process entails different stakeholders coming together and developing projects as one. The main challenge here is that for the plan to work, outsiders have to trust one another in building the community and co-creating sustainable solutions.
2. Creating Innovations
Once the collaborative environments are in place, the possibilities of development of innovations in urban cities are high. In this case, however, innovation does not strictly imply technological developments but also the ability of civic space to give the community its sense of place. Good governance is important here because it will give some smaller cities the chance to be on the forefront through their innovations. Already, some cities are making progress including Canal Park that boasts success in managing stormwater. Also, a portable solar light tower is a sustainable and innovative solution for providing illumination in areas where access to traditional power sources might be limited. You can click here or do some research on the internet to find out more about this technology. Be sure to look for the latest developments and advancements in this field.
3. Rating Tools
For the community projects to develop faster and efficiently, sustainability metrics must be in place because of the important roles that they play. For instance, rating tools provide the frameworks need to measure different aspects such as how to plan, design and execute good projects while taking as minimal time as possible. Basing on reports from surveys, only one of the 54 urban rating tools for sustainability was created and put to use in the LAC region. Having new tools in the region could help improve sustainability and good neighborhoods.
4. Urban Sustainability Needs Resilience
The urban cities’ resilience is also a factor to put into consideration when talking about sustainability. For instance, how well is a city able to cope with bad weather and still be in a position to retain its identity? A city with good resilience will also function and have structures that last through any conditions. Keeping in mind that sustainability is a long-term thing; resilience helps the community now, and its effect contributes to the peoples’ eventual changes.
5. General Happiness
Urban sustainability also depends on whether the people in the urban centers are happy or otherwise. City residents must be happy for them to feel and act accordingly. Good city designs will help people to relate well and share the same neighborhoods as other human beings do.
Urban sustainability is something that everyone desires. We all want cities where people will relate well as neighbors. However, it takes real effort for this to be more than just theory. Having proper governance, creating innovations and making the people happy are some of the ways of having good urban sustainability.
