Hello World! Welcome Friends! Now is one of the best times to start a blog.
There are so many host platforms that mean you can build a website even if you don’t know any code. And social media sites like Instagram and Facebook can turn a little blog into a six-figure business.
You may want to start a blog as a side hustle to earn yourself a bit of extra cash or maybe you just want to share your passions with others. Whatever the reason, everyone needs to start their blog in the same way.
If you have no idea where to start then this is the article you have been looking for. We are going to talk you through a simple 5 step process that will leave you with a blog and a first post that others will (hopefully) be reading.
If you know what type of blog you want then this process will be a lot quicker for you. However, you don’t have to know what you want to write about to benefit from this article.
Keep reading to learn the 5 simple steps to starting a blog and publishing your first blog post…
Pick a Name and Register It
Step one of the process is to pick a name for your blog and register it.
You want to try and get a domain for your blog that is as close to your blog name as possible.
For example, if you have a baking blog called ‘Bread Rolling on the River’, then you don’t want to pick www.fluffykittens.wordpress.
So, before settling firmly on a name you will want to make sure that there is a similar domain available.
You will also want to pick the website that is going to host your new blog – there are many options. You can find a more comprehensive guide here for picking the hosts for your blog.
Pick your Niche (Topic)
While it can be tempting to write a blog that covers a wide range of topics that interest you. You will want to avoid this. Covering too many topics will get your website classes as a low authority by search engines.
Why is this bad? It means that when people search for a topic you have written about, your article won’t appear among the top search results.
So, pick one topic and stick to it.
If you want to write about another topic you can always start a second blog to cover that.

Establish a Social Media Presence
Gone are the days where blogs can be successful without a social media presence elsewhere on the internet.
Your social media will be the main thing driving people to your blog. So have a think about what social media platforms are most appropriate for your niche.
If you are writing about businesses then use Linkedin. If you are writing about cleaning hacks use Facebook. If you are writing about books, use Instagram.
The analytics on your blog will be able to show you which sites are sending the most traffic to your website and which ones you should be dedicating the most time to.
Write your First Blog Post
Now, it’s time to write your first blog post.
Try to keep it under 2500 words, maybe 1000 if you are writing an informational piece.
If you are stuck for ideas then you should look at what the other blogs in your niche are writing about. You shouldn’t copy them because the search engines can pick up on duplicate content. But it is okay to take inspiration from them.
When writing your blog post make sure to include lots of headings, as they make it easier for visitors to read your article. Another way to make your writing more engaging is to use shorter paragraphs.
Promote your Blog
Finally, you need to let people know you have a blog with posts on it.
When you first start blogging you will need to build a reader base. This is hard to do without promoting your blog on social media, as your blog will begin with a low ranking on search engines like Google.
Avoid copying your article on your social media pages as it will give your readers no reason to go to your blog. Instead, make a series of posts that create intrigue about what you have written and will make your followers want to click through on the blog post.
