Hello World! Welcome Friends! When it comes to problems around the home, nothing is worse than a blocked toilet. Not only is it inconvenient, but – let’s face it – it’s gross too! But even though the toilet is the smelliest, most revolting part of your home, you can still unblock it, no matter how dire the situation may seem.
Step 1: Gather Your Gear
The first thing you’ll need to do is gather your gear. You’ll need rubber gloves, a plunger, old newspaper to cover the area around the toilet, drain unblocker, and possibly a fan if it’s a little smelly.
Step 2: Leave The Flush Alone
Flushing usually eliminates all the waste in your toilet bowl, but if you have a blockage, this won’t work.
Whatever you do, make sure that you resist the urge to pull on that handle. Your toilet will overflow, and you’ll end up with a disgusting mess all over your bathroom floor.
Step 3: Find Out Where The Blockage Lies
The next step is to find out where the blockage is. Knowing the location is vital. If it is high up in the system, you can usually deal with the problem yourself. If it is lower down, then you’ll need to call on the services of a sewer repair company.
First, lift the drain cover to see if the chamber has water in it. If it does, then it means that the blockage is further along the soil pipe. If the chamber is empty, then it means the blockage is between it and the loo.
Step 4: Use a Plunger Shaped To Fit Over The Seal Of The Toilet Opening
Finding a plunger that forms an air-tight seal around your toilet bowl can be a challenge – not surprising, given the sheer variety of toilets out there. If you can find one that fits, use it to create a seal around the toilet bowl and start plunging away. The sudden changes in pressure back and forth will help dislodge whatever material might be causing the blockage further down.
Step 5: Use A Wire Rod To Dislodge The Blockage
If you don’t have a suitable plunger, don’t worry: you can sometimes unblock your toilet with the help of a wire rod.
Take a wire coat hanger out of your closet and unwind it so that you have a long, bendy rod. Feed the rod through the toilet bowl and keep pushing it until you encounter resistance. Wiggle it around and try to gently push the blockage clear without scratching the inside of your toilet.
Step 6: Use Hot Water To Dissolve The Blockage
If, for some reason, you have reason to believe that the blockage is mild, you can try the hot water method. Pour a kettle of boiling water into your toilet bowl. Sometimes this can “dissolve” the blockage by loosening up any unwanted material that might be getting in the way.
Step 7: Pretend Nothing Ever Happened
Once you eliminate the problem, spritz your bathroom with some air freshener and then leave the scene of the crime. Nothing to see here!
