Hello World! Welcome Friends! Plumbing is essential for any home. It doesn’t just cover getting water into your home and to all your appliances, it also encompasses the safe and efficient removal of wastewater and products.
Whether you’re looking at building your own home, supervising a build, or planning on ripping out your plumbing and starting again, you’ll need to work out the rough plumbing to ensure your plumbing contractor gets it right. This applies whether you’re getting a contractor to do the work or are doing it yourself.
What Is Rough Plumbing?
This is the process of establishing the location of all your faucets and other water appliances. Part of this process is ensuring that all the waste pipes and fittings are in the right position. This makes fitting the appliance easy and ensures everything works properly. Don’t forget, waste plumbing need to be placed at the correct gradients.
Mark The Location
You need to mark the location of every appliance and every waste pipe in your renovation project. It’s easy to do, draw a template of the appliance and line the pipes up. This will ensure that, when the framework is made, the homes for pipework are in the right place.
This works whether you’re doing the work or someone else. The key here is that the framework holes are ready. This ensures that everything is in the right position. If you don’t do this you may find the sink being fitted in a different position to the sink drain.
You should also mark the path of water and gas pipes as this will help to ensure they are laid at the right time and they are accessible in the future. In fact, marking the lines after the renovation is complete is also a good idea. You can use colored paint to mark floors and walls that won’t usually be seen.
Check The Drains
It’s likely that the mains drains will already be connected, allowing you to connect up your appliances and check they work properly. However, before you start connecting appliances you should check the drains. The easiest way to do this is to buy a drain camera. It can be slid through the pipes to ensure there are no blockages. Clogs can be caused by the wrong type of waste going down the drains or the pipe can be damaged by tree roots or similar.
Even if the plumbing is all-new, it’s possible debris from the renovation has entered the pipe, potentially causing a clog. The drain camera will ensure there are no issues.
Double-Check
After the framework has been put up but before you do anything else, check. You’ll want to make sure that the gaps created for plumbing are in the right spots, making installing the plumbing and the appliances much simpler.
Don’t forget to consider green options when creating the rough plumbing. It’s possible to use low-flow appliances that will save you money or even add in rainwater collectors to use when flushing the toilet. It’s best to do this while renovating instead of after.
