Hello World! Welcome Friends! Tonight, please welcome Greg Macchia to the blog!
Chores are an important part of every child’s life as they can teach life skills, how to work with others and prepare the child for adulthood. As a parent, you want to do your best to teach your child how to complete chores and help around the house. But how do you get your kids involved? How do you teach them to complete their chores and feel good about the work they have completed? Below are a few simple tips on how to incorporate chores into your child’s life, no matter how small!
Make It Fun
Cleaning is never really fun, even adults don’t particularly enjoy it. But you can make it more fun. Think up silly songs or turn on your favorite music while you clean. This can help to pump up the attitude of everyone in the home as cleaning is done. You can also make cleaning a game. Clean with your child and have a race to see who can complete their chores first. Looking at cleaning as a fun activity instead of a bother can help to instill a good attitude within your child as you get them to clean.
Create a Chart
A chart is a great way to get kids interested in cleaning. Make it colorful and interesting and involve your child in the process. Set up categories for cleaning and provide your child with fun planner stickers to place on the chart once cleaning is done. This provides a sense of accomplishment and your child will feel great once they finish a chore and can place a sticker on their personalized chart.
Reward Good Behavior
It is important to always reward good behavior. While cleaning is a chore and needs to build character within your child, they should be rewarded for a job well-done. If you choose to fill out a chart, think about how you can incorporate rewards. Perhaps, once a month, you can take your child for a treat if they fill in all of the blank spots in their chart. This could be for ice cream or a special toy at the store. Small rewards can be a big boost for kids as they see what positive consequences can arise from doing a good job.
Mix It Up
Keep cleaning interesting. While making the bed, picking up dirty laundry and putting toys away is easily done, it can also get boring. Mix up how you clean. For example, have a special toy fun day where all toys are picked up to silly music. This will change up how your child cleans and make it silly and fun. Think of ways you can mix up the process so that your child does not get bored and actually looks forward to cleaning every day. You can even let them do a few ‘adult’ chores to change up the process and make them feel important.
Following these tips can help you to get started on the path to success when it comes to kids and cleaning. Start incorporating these tips and watch as your child learns how to complete chores and feel good about their clean rooms and home!
