Hello World! Welcome Friends! Apart from keeping them clean and using them when we need to, most of us pay very little attention to the toilets in our homes. There are not particularly interesting to talk about, and many of us don’t like to dwell on bodily functions, after all.
However, your toiletries are one of the most important amenities in your home – just think where you would be without at least one working toilet in the house – so it is important that you take special care to care for and maintain them. Below are some tips that will help you to do just that.
Keep It Clean
The first thing you need to do to look after your toilets is to ensure that they are always kept very clean. This is important for their condition, but it is even more important for the health and hygiene of your family.
How do you keep your toilet clean? Start by using a toilet brush or wipes, in conjunction with bleach or toilet cleaner, to keep it clean each day. About once every week, you should give it a deep clean by pouring bicarb down and leaving overnight. Flush and scrub the next day and it will come up sparkling.
Don’t Leave Leaks
If your toilet is leaking, even just a little, then you should call a plumbing professional to come over and take a look at it as soon as possible. This is vital because what looks like a small leak could actually indicate a big problem such as a broken pipe or a cracked toilet bowl that will only get worse. Not only that, but a leaking toilet, can cause dampness and mold to take hold, which is really bad for your home and your health.
Deal With blockages
A plunger and a drain snake are often all that is required to clear minor blockages from your toilet. However, sometimes, mineral deposits will block the little home in the toilet that are located under the rim. A good way to get rid of these is to use a hand mirror, which you can position to see the holes. You can then use a wire hanger to dislodge the mineral deposits that are causing the block.
Don’t Flush Anything You Shouldn’t
One of the worst things you can do is to flush things down your toilet that do not belong there. Ideally, the only things that should be going down the toilet are the water your family produces and toilet paper. Even wet wipes, even when they say they are suitable for flushing, can cause blockages in the toilet, and when that happens, it could lead to your toilet overflowing, which is never a nice thing to have happen.
Place a bin in your bathroom, and then, anything that your family might be tempted to flush down the toilet, but which is not suitable, can be put in there instead.
You need the toilets in your home to be in good working order, so take good care of them.
