Hello World! Welcome Friends! Whether you’re a hobbyist looking to make a few extra dollars, or a business owner taking advantage of an excellent source of marketing, YouTube channels are hot right now. There are over 31 million YouTube channels providing viewers with helpful information and simple entertainment. If you’re thinking of taking advantage of the possibilities this platform can offer, here are some tips to help you along the way.
Act and Sound Natural
If you sound robotic like you’ve memorized what you’re saying or you’re reading from a sheet of paper, people are going to tune out fast. There’s nothing wrong with reading the information you’re providing as long as it sounds like it’s free-flowing. For some people, this may take practice.
If you’re describing a product, or talking about last night’s baseball game, but you need some help staying on point, a miniature teleprompter can transform the notes saved on your smartphone into a screen large enough for you to view.
Have a Specific Niche
Your followers will want you to be an expert at something. What are you bringing them? Is it entertaining? Or educational? Maybe a little of both? Even better. Whatever it is, be consistent. Don’t talk about fastest cars one week and demonstrate an art project the next.
If your channel is to promote your business, share demonstrations of what your product can do, or provide content related to your expertise in your industry. You will become their primary go-to person on all things related.
Post on a Schedule
You have the potential to gain subscribers to your channel. People are more likely to continue following you if they can rely on you to provide content. If your uploading schedule is erratic, like once every several months, don’t count on them to wait around for the next piece you produce.
If you can, upload content at least once a week. The more often you are able, the bigger your audience will become. Three times a week is a great goal to have in mind.
Learn to Edit Your Video
Video editing isn’t rocket science, but it does take a commitment of time. The better you are at editing video, the more enjoyable your videos will be. You can use a YouTube video maker to start with editing as a beginner. Edit out distractions, and anything annoying such as you pausing to say, “Um.”
Adding in photos and video clips will provide a multi-media experience and look more professional. Photos give the viewer something to look at other than your face. You may have a great face, but remember variety is the spice of life.
Develop a Series
For information that is too much for one episode, leave them hanging with a series. Part 1 is this week. Part 2 comes next week. Maybe there’s even a part 3. This gives them a reason to come back. It also gives them a reason to binge your videos if they come along later.
Know Your Audience
Keep track of your YouTube stats so you know what performs well. If a particular episode performed much better than others, try to replicate that formula without replicating content. Your audience will tell you what they want to see and you should listen to that guidance.
Starting Equipment
If you find you’ve had a hidden talent as a channel host, you’ll do well on YouTube. You’ll never know until you try it. The best part is, it takes a simple setup to get started. If you have a laptop or desktop computer with a built-in camera, you’re most of the way there.
Make a small investment in a USB mic so your voice carries nicely. You can make other investments as your journey progresses.
Most of all, have fun with it. People will be able to tell whether or not you enjoy what you’re doing. Good luck.
