Hello World! Welcome Friends! Everyone likes to travel. We all dream of visiting so many places one day. To be able to walk around London or Paris is everyone’s dream. We all imagine the day we get to walk on those European streets. Every city has a distinct architecture. If you didn’t know there’s always someone in charge of designing this. It has to be planned, organized and appealing to the tourists’ eyes. Also, they have to have someone to design the furniture.
What is Street Furniture Exactly?
It seems like a weird thing to say. You may not know that there’s such a term. This term is mostly used in the UK. Basically, it’s all the things you see out there. Things like benches, bins, seats, pergolas and others are just an example. If you want to see how it all looks like, check out Langley Design UK. The designers think about aesthetics, function and safety. They also have to think if they will stand on the path of the walkers. Everything is important here.
Walking around as a tourist, you are guided by the street name signs. When you need to take a break, you sit down on a nearby bench. It was probably strategically placed there. Someone thought very carefully about this detail. Also, walking around London you probably see a lot of short poles. They’re called bollards. You can see a lot of litter bins. That way pedestrians won’t litter that much.
The things we recognize immediately about the UK are the distinct red phone booths. They have become a signature sign for this particular country. Even though, people don’t use them as much, tourists adore them. You will also see many fire hydrants. They are painted red often. All of the things mentioned above are all part of street furniture. You can learn about others on this link. Everything contributes to the whole aesthetic of the city.
Historical Evolution
It’s normal for things to evolve as technology does. There aren’t any more phone booths built out there. Mainly this is so because there’s no need for them. The first landmark was the Maritime Bollard. It wasn’t put there for the sake of aesthetics. Instead, it was to protect pavements from carriages. They are ancient. Nowadays, they are still a sign for public safety from cars. Also, you may have noticed those old bus shelters. They’re from the 1830’s.
When the railway appeared, so did the benches. Then, the public water fountains appeared. All of this is a result of industrialization. Everything is changing slowly. This is the normal way of things. It would be boring if there was nothing new. The new items that are appearing are more interesting. You will surely notice them on your travels. The government is in charge of city architecture. You can see how the newest items look here https://somethingcurated.com/2016/04/26/londons-innovative-street-furniture-and-its-designers/.
What Does Street Furniture Look Like Today?
You may have gotten used to the traditional benches. They’re plain. Nowadays you will see a lot of new shapes and colors. They use bright catchy colors. The rainbow colors are used everywhere today. This stands as a symbol for tolerance and understanding. The very new piece in the city is the charging station. It looks like it’s straight out of a sci–fi movie. Now, you won’t have to worry about a low battery. You won’t even have to rush to the nearby café to charge your phone.
Are There Any Challenges To Innovation?
So, many people are getting concerned that all of this evolution is a threat to heritage. All cities have distinct landmarks. They should be kept safe. It would be a pity to take down the red telephone booths. London wouldn’t be the same after. There are also very important buildings that have to be kept.
As you may have noticed, a lot of people started to go green. So, the cities started to use this strategy to their street design. They’re making room for more parks and trees. This is a nice thing, mainly because of global warming. The furniture is evolving as such a fast rate. We live in a interesting and innovative age.
