Hello World! Welcome Friends! Well, after a year of delays, I can finally say, my office is done! Get ready for a ton of pictures as well as a source list at the bottom of the post. The space is a good size with 15 foot ceilings and an 8 foot arched window.
Here are a couple of pictures of the before from the listing when we bought the house.
As you can see, I painted the walls and the ceiling. The ceiling fan was taken down and replaced with a pretty gold lantern chandelier. I had solid wood panels made instead of plantation shutters so that my view while I worked would be unobstructed. I love our oak tree and the pretty landscaping that the owners who built the house had installed.
This is the view I have across from my desk. The drawer underneath the printer provides great storage for printer paper and some office supplies. The bottom drawer that looks like two drawers is one huge hanging file folder cabinet.
There are two chairs that face the desk for chatty visitors to have a seat while I work. Underneath each chair are storage boxes that contain all of our piano music and some vocal music. I’m not teaching voice lessons that much anymore, so I did purge quite a bit of music.
My pretty miniature azalea somewhat hides my computer cord. She’s very happy in her spot by the window.
Eventually, I would love to build a custom home, but for this house I didn’t really want to rip out the flooring and countertops. Fortunately, the flooring and the countertops were all upgrades when the house was built. My goal is to work with the house and make it shine on its own.
In all of my houses, there is always an Asian element that seems to come out in my decor. The book in the background is a book my father picked up when he was in Korea. He was in the Air Force during the Korean War and this was one of the items he brought back from his time there. The vase in front, I picked up in Goodwill years ago. It has a stamp on the bottom in Chinese. So, I’m not too sure if it has any value at all. The pictures that flank the bookcase are custom art pieces that my niece, Gabriella made for me. I had them framed at Michaels.
Here is a close-up of the frame and fabric on the chair. My mom made some pillows with fabric from Ethan Allen.
Around this side of the room is our old, old piano. I can’t seem to get rid of it, even though I don’t play very often.
The artwork to me is so beautiful! It didn’t matter if it wasn’t the right dimensions, I would have found a spot to use it. Fortunately, she works perfectly above the piano.
Next to the piano in the corner is my quiet time chair. It is such a comfortable chair that I will admit I have dozed off a couple of times.
The “Reis” is a cross-stitch my Mom made my Great-Aunt Carrie. Her married name was Reis. She was the one that influenced my love for Asian artifacts. Her home was filled with beautiful treasures she and my Great-Uncle picked up on their travels to Japan and China.
The credenza holds more office supplies and my binder files. When a file is no longer needed, but I need to keep a record of it, ie taxes, I place them in binders and store them here. This has freed up so much space in the filing drawer.
This picture is so you can see the details of the desktop.
And, this chair is so comfortable and pretty with it’s curved lines.
This shot is so you can see up close the details of the credenza doors.
My pretty girl growing up so fast!
All of the desk accessories are from Amazon.
The gold hardware on the shutter panels is from Modern Matter.
I had to show you what they look like fully shut. They are huge! 8 feet tall at the highest point.
I had another mirror here in this space that was pretty, but it just wasn’t working. This one seems to fit the space better.
Looking out onto the Entry Hall.
Look at my little girl when she was 3! Those curls were so pretty!
Here is another shot of the fabric used on the chairs. The great thing about having these chairs is that they can be put to use when we are entertaining and we need additional seating.
Well, I leave you with my pretty view out the window! I’m happy that this project is finished. Of course there is always another project in the works.

Absolutely stunning choice coordination and end result, Kathryn! I also favor a bit of Asian decor and you’ve selected some very nice pieces. I love the print over the piano. I also love that you’ve kept the piano. Ethan Allen beauty shines, and the jewelry hardware too. Chloe is a young woman now, wow, and a beauty. She favors you in her looks!

How wonderful to have a Dedicated workspace —where you can be organized and inspired. Love the windows and all the touches, a bit of bling and the dark walls. We’ve have done dark walls in bedrooms over the years—making the room cozy and almost a cocoon…gorgeous! Sandi

Thank you, Sandi. I’m contemplating painting our bedroom a dark color. It might however be hard to wake up though…lol.
