Hello World! Welcome Friends! How are you? How’s life going right now for you? We, just like everyone else are super busy between work, school activities, cleaning (or trying to clean), and painting…time seems to be in short supply. Today, I want to catch you up on the house projects. Last week I shared my Pantry Refresh and Organization project; so this week it’s all about the Study. The Study is the first room to the left off of the Entry Hall. Here, let me show you:
The Study/Office Space Plan
One of my favorite things about this room is the HUGE window. The morning light pours into this room making it an ideal spot to start the work day.
The walls have been painted and I am currently painting the ceiling. You know how that thrills me that I have yet another ceiling to paint! I just think of it as getting a good shoulder workout. Anyhoo, back to the plan. I’m not touching the trim since it is stained to match the doors. The one dilemma I have is regarding the window treatment. We took down the blinds while I was painting the walls and have never put them back up. I really like the look of the big arched window with no blinds. I am definitely going to hang some curtains, and hopefully that will look lovely dressing the window on the sides and will offer a bit of privacy in the evenings. I do feel like I am on display when I pop into the office in the evenings to check something on the computer.
I’m moving to more transitional furniture pieces mixed with traditional elements in this house. All of the furniture is from Ethan Allen and should be delivered in November if all goes well with the shipments. The paint color is Salty Dog #9177 from Sherwin Williams. I must say, the dark blue paint color looks amazing against the dark trim. The only thing I’m not quite sold on is the rug. The rug is the Celine Cheetah Rug from Ballard Designs. Since the floors are the reddish brown tile, I want the rug to have beige or light brown as the foundation color of the rug. Just not sure about the pattern mix with the other fabrics.
Speaking of fabrics, the picture above has the three main fabrics for the space. The curtain fabric is the navy blue floral, the middle beige fabric is the fabric for the seat bottom of the chair, and the other print is the fabric for a pillow that my Mom (aka Betty Lou) will make. She will use the extra from the solid fabric to make a trim for the pillow.
Another component of the study plan I’m working on is file storage. I’m moving away from file folders and transitioning to the binder system. I think the binder system will take up much less space than the file system since I’m also doing a massive paper purge. The office storage will be a post all on its own. So, be on the lookout for that one.
The lighting is from Wayfair and has a slight Pagoda shape that ties in nicely with the Red Pagoda Mirror in the Entry Hall. That is the plan so far. I still have to shop for artwork, lamps for the console and a stool or chair for the piano.

What a lovely space! I like what you have planned. Good luck with the furniture. Ours was all super delayed because of Covid (5 months later than they originally said!), but hopefully things are picking back up now. I’m visiting today from the Over the Moon link up. Have a great week Kathryn!

5 months! I sure hope it doesn’t take that long. One piece is in, but being held to the others show up for one delivery. Thank you so much for the kind words. Hope you have a lovely week.

LOVE those fabrics! I am using those colors in our condo and have a little crush on them, I must say. As for file systems, I am moving as much as possible to scanning and filing electronically – no space, and purging so much paper in the downsize really showed me how much paper we hoarded over the years.

I hear you on the amount of paper. I’ve never shredded so much in my life. Thanks for popping over for a look. Hope you’re having a lovely week.

What a great space! I love the huge window too. We finished our home office earlier this year. Having a dedicated space does, indeed, make a huge difference!

I absolutely colours… you’ve got a real eye for design! I don’t have as much space as you, sadly, but I think I could potentially adapt a couple of these ideas!

That’s a great space you have. I can’t wait to see how it turns out! I love big windows too. They make the room bright and provide a good view of the outdoors too.
Thanks for sharing this at our #HomeMattersParty
