Hello World! Welcome Friends! The back hall in our house is the workhorse of our home. It is directly off of the kitchen with five doors leading to various spots in our home. Most back hallways can be quite boring, but I wanted ours to have just a touch of glam. There isn’t much wall space to work with since there are five doors taking up the space. So, I wanted the doors to be the stars of the hall with gold hardware. Everything got a fresh coat of paint including the trim and the ceiling.
I don’t have any before shots of the back hall, but here is a shot from the listing looking through the kitchen to the back hall.
Gone are the baby diarrhea doors and trim. The wall color in the picture above is much lighter than in person. The photographer had to do some major brightening up to make the space look light filled. Since I have you in the kitchen, let me share the plans with you. In the granite, (which I love) there is a whitish color that runs through the slab. The backsplash also has a bit of white in it as well. The cabinets will be painted white, probably Snowbound from Sherwin Williams with the walls and the trim getting the same colors used in the Entry Hall and Back Hall. Of course all of the dark hardware will be replaced with gold hardware and a new gold faucet will be installed. We’ve already replaced the light that goes over the breakfast table and I’m looking for gold pendants to replace the island pendants. Okay, back to the back hallway.
The pantry is behind the door on the left and the laundry room is behind the door on the right. We we first moved in, I didn’t like the tile, but I have to say after living here for some time, it has grown on me and now I quite like it. Such a bonus! Now, I don’t have to spend money ripping out all of the tile in the house! You also get a peek of the new rug. I liked the Ballard Designs Antelope rug that I purchased for the Entry Hall so much, I decided to get a runner of the same design for the back hall. At the end of the post, I’ll share shopping resources as well as paint colors.
Do you remember this mirror? It has made the move with us from all of our houses. In the first house it was in the Voice Studio sporting her original black color.
In our second house, the Colonial, the mirror didn’t make it onto a wall. I never could decide where to put her. In our last house, I spray painted her gold and hung her in the Entry Hall.
It’s nice to have a mirror in the Back Hall. It affords a quick glance at one’s appearance before heading out to the garage. The door to the left is a second bedroom, the center door leads to the garage and the door on the right leads to a guest bathroom.
Isn’t the rug divine? We generally don’t wear shoes in the house unless we are entertaining. It’s so nice to have such a pretty and comfy rug to step on when heading to the laundry room or to use the restroom. In addition to being pretty, the rug coordinates nicely with the tile. Also, I changed out the door stopper to this chunky beauty. The door stopper is the same design as the door stoppers in the Entry Hall.
Gone is the typical builder basic boob light. It it’s place is this pretty beaded light. Greg was quick to point out that we exchanged the previous light for a “beaded boob”. And, he’s right! But, this one is prettier. We also have the same light hung in the little hall just outside of the Primary Bedroom.
Below is Chloe’s Checklist that I purchased from Erin Condren. Once school starts back up, this will be filled up. It’s a magnetic dry erase board that will make it quite easy for her to see what she needs to do before and after school as well as keep track of her schedule. I opted to hang it in the Back Hall instead of her room since the Back Hall is utilized more by the entire family. This way we can all be aware of what she has to do and stay on top of her schedule. It also has a cubby for the dry erase markers as well as a spot or two for key fobs and her school id.
Now we are facing the Pantry door. You can just get a glimpse of the marker cubby as well as the kitty bowl in the kitchen. Also, I forgot to mention that all of the hinges on the doors had to be changed out. The previous ones were painted the ever so lovely baby diarrhea color.
That’s it for the Back Hall. I’m glad that project is finished…too many doors to paint at once. Week after next, I will be sharing our freshly painted and organized pantry. This pantry is way smaller than our previous one, but with added organization solutions, we don’t have a storage problem. I hope you will stop by to check out the other workhorse in the house. And, next week I will share our new Front Porch Decor. Below are the paint colors as well as a shopping carousel in case something caught your fancy.

Very nice, Kathryn! Why in the world would anyone paint hinges, other than being lazy? Love the color on the doors and the antelope rug. Tres chic.

Rita, I have been asking that question for a year. Fortunately, the painted hinges weren’t too hard to get off. But, it did take a little bit of effort since a couple of them were stuck to the door. Anyhoo, so glad that project is over with. Thanks for stopping by. Happy week to you!

Love this idea of color painted doors. I have had an image pinned of a coral painted door for several years. Now you have me circling back to that. Your hardware sparkles against that blue. Perfect.
We came up north this month because we are entering peak hurricane season down in Florida but have experienced our first derecho up here. I had never heard the word before but apparently it is an inland hurricane. Who knew? Our town has been devastated and I will be blogging about it whenever we get internet again. Luckily there was little loss of life but the property damage here in Iowa is So much worse than Irma in 2017.
I always enjoy your posts. So glad I discovered you here.

I watched a couple of videos of the derecho…that was crazy. I’ve never seen anything like that inland. Speaking of doors, I think you should definitely consider painting your doors coral. If anyone can make them look beautiful, it’s definitely you!

Also, I wanted to let you know, I tried to leave a comment on your Exterior Reveal and was unable to. Anyhoo, the house looks amazing! You did such an incredible job…the porch was genius! Can’t wait to see the interior.

I see that my response to your response did not go through but we were relying on just cellular service for several weeks since we did not have internet. But this was my earlier reply…

I’m not sure I would do all of them but I always thought it would be fun to do the door at the end of the hallway that leads into the garage. We are heading back at the end of the month but we are having some work done to the kitchen cabinets so I might wait until we have the place back to ourselves again (sans workers). Again. Love this blue.
