Hello World! Are you familiar with the concept of a Murphy bed? You’ve probably seen one before, even if you didn’t necessarily know its name. Basically, a murphy bed is any bed that rests on a hinge, allowing it to be easily folded up and stored vertically, in its own wall space or perhaps simply tucked away in the corner.
Murphy beds are becoming increasingly popular among homeowners and custom furniture makers alike—and it isn’t difficult to understand why. Murphy beds offer the homeowner a number of major benefits. We’ll list just a few of them in the paragraphs that follow.
Why Install a Murphy Bed?
A few reasons to think seriously about getting a Murphy bed:
It’s a great way to be hospitable. Let’s be honest: Nobody really likes sleeping on a couch, a fold-out sofa bed, or a futon. That’s not to say your guests won’t appreciate the kind offer. It’s just that they’d appreciate it much more if you could offer them a real bed. And tucking one away in your wall, ready to pull down when you have company, is ultimately a much more hospitable offer than just throwing some pillows and blankets on the floor.
Your home office can do double duty. One of the nice things about a Murphy bed is that you can have a designated sleep area that folds up and out of sight, meaning you don’t have to put it in a full-on bedroom. You can put a Murphy bed in the same room as your desk and office furniture, for instance—using the room as a work space most of the time, but having it available as a bedroom when you need it.
You can make the most of limited square footage. Those who live in small apartments or tiny condos know fully well how valuable a Murphy bed can be! Imagine being able to have a bed without necessarily sacrificing any floor space. What could be better?
Murphy beds are great for kids. You can have a crib in the room until your child is ready for a bed—and when that day comes, just fold it out from the wall! You can also have more space in the room for a desk and play space.
You don’t have to put much effort in. Just pull it out, or in some cases press a button, and your bed is ready; there’s no set up required.
The Murphy bed may not be for everyone, yet its applications are obviously numerous. Keep it in mind the next time you’re shopping for furniture or designing your next home, and reap some of these Murphy bed benefits!
Thank you for stopping in! Have a great evening! Go with God and remember to be kind to one another!

Kathryn,
Great advice and tips on Murphy beds, dear friend!!!
I would probably swallow the room with other furnishings,
making it next to impossible to let the bed down!!! (wink!)

I have an interior designer friend (oh what talent has she) that had a custom-made Murphy Bed put in her basement in the perfect area – one cannot even notice it when it is tucked away it looks just like built-in cabinets that match across the space with all her craft room cabinets – brilliant. I hadn't seen one in years till she just showed me. She has a brand new home and everytime I visit I want to move right in. : – )
Anyway, good post, I agree!
