Hello World! Welcome Friends! Everyone wants to throw the best parties. Even if it is a party for a couple of your closest friends, you can have a professional-grade cocktail menu without the tabc licensing by just learning a few essential recipes. Stock up on a few basics and get ready to amaze and delight your friends with your newfound mixology talents.
Old Fashioned
This classic whiskey cocktail is a bartender’s staple and takes its name from the abbreviated Old Fashioned Whiskey Cocktail. Muddle a sugar cube and two dashes of Angostura bitters with a spoonful of water in the bottom of a tall glass. You can substitute the sugar cube and water for a spoonful of simple syrup if desired. Pour in two ounces of either rye or bourbon as the spirit for this drink. Add ice cubes and stir for about 30 seconds, then finish with a twist of orange peel to serve.
Martini
Another classic, a recipe for a good martini is a must-have in your bar repertoire. The martini may have gotten its name from the Italian Martini vermouth used to make the drink. However, there is also evidence to show that a San Francisco drink called the Martinez may also have been the inspiration for the later version of the drink. To make a martini, you use 2 ounces of gin or vodka and 1 ounce of dry vermouth. Shake together or stir with ice, depending on your preference.
Manhattan
Bourbon or rye whiskey, sweet vermouth and bitters are all it takes to make this old-school cocktail. It originated in the 1880s in New York at the elite Manhattan Club. To serve this drink, combine 2 ounces rye whiskey, 1-ounce sweet vermouth and 2 dashes of Angostura bitters together with cracked ice then strain into a chilled glass. An orange twist or branded cherry is the perfect garnish.
Margarita
While you may have become used to the icy version of this drink with your Mexican food, this tasty drink is best enjoyed on the rocks. To make it, take 2 ounces silver tequila, 1 ounce Cointreau and 1-ounce fresh-squeezed lime juice, then shake together with cracked ice. To serve, rub a lime wedge over the rim of a margarita glass and dip it into a shallow plate of salt, then strain the delicious mixture into a glass over ice. If you want to get festive, mix some chili powder or smoked paprika into your salt before dipping the glass.
