Hello World! Welcome Friends! 2020 saw for the first time, a truly great number of people working from home. Before the pandemic, just 17% of employees in the US worked a full week from home, but once Covid arrived, that number jumped to about 44%.
Around 70 percent of workers who were able to carry out their jobs from home did just that last year. According to Pew Research, the majority will carry on working from home after the pandemic. It appears that most remote workers have enjoyed the experience and the benefits that remote working can bring.
With this in mind, these employees must arrange their remote working spaces in the right manner. The areas that need to be thought out when arranging a home workspace include health and safety, lighting, and comfort. Something that is often overlooked is window treatments.
Getting the right blinds for your home office can help more than you may imagine.
Why Is It Necessary to Set Up your Home Office Correctly?
Commercial workspaces are regulated for health and safety, and the amount of space the employees have. There must be sufficient floor space and room to move freely.
When people set up home offices they often don’t take as much care as their employers have to do with the main office building. Home offices are often little more than a desk in the corner of a spare room, or in the attic or basement.
How you set your home office up though will affect how you work. It is important to know how to set up a work-from-home space so that you will be productive, comfortable, have good lighting, and not be distracted.
One very important area is the lighting. Although you may not be able to create more natural lighting in your office, you can make the most of it by installing some good blinds.
How Does Fitting Blinds in the Home Office Help You?
Firstly, there is aesthetics to consider. When you fix up your home office, you will ideally decorate it first. Some colors such as blues and greens can be calming. Warm whites are good for creating a fuss-free work environment that doesn’t cause distractions. People tend to browse through blinds online to so they’d have a wider range of options when it comes to colors and designs. This also helps them save money and time.
Blinds too, come in a range of colors and materials and can help to finish off the look of your home workspace. However, they have some very positive and practical uses too.
Quite often blinds will be cheaper than curtains as they use less material, so you will save money. They provide total privacy when you need to be locked away and left alone to concentrate on a big project. They are also very easy to maintain and will generally need no more than a quick dust or a wipe with a damp cloth now and again.
Importantly, they also let you completely control how much light enters the room.
Getting the Lighting Right in your Home Office
If you want to put together a healthy remote working environment then you need a few things. The right office furniture is important so that you are comfortable and free from backaches or discomfort.
There should be plenty of space for you to move freely, adequate storage space, and the lighting should be perfect.
Good lighting in an office will mean that you work more productively, and can avoid many possible issues. Screen glare isn’t just distracting, it can stop you from working effectively and cause eye strain.
Poor lighting means that you can become fatigued, lose energy, develop headaches, and perform poorly at your work.
How Do Blinds Help With Lighting?
There are plenty of options when it comes to domestic and commercial blinds for your office and other rooms in the home. Depending on what type of windows you have in your home office you could select from blinds that stick to window frame, full floor to ceiling blinds or Venetian, roller, vertical, or Roman blinds.
All these types of blinds will allow you to ignore the outside world, and stop any light coming in. Alternatively, they will also give you control over just how much light you want to let in. Some blinds will let you control the lighting better than others, and vertical and Venetian blinds are popular in offices for this reason.
Summary
The trend for remote working appears to be continuing as many employees are expressing their desire to remain at home. The advantages for the worker are less time and expense on traveling, and less stress. For the employer, there appears to be an increase in productivity and less expense too.
With many people staying home, there will be less need to rent or purchase expensive downtown office space, and buildings are already being converted for other purposes.
Earlier in the year, the Washington Post reported that one part of the ‘new normal’ might be seeing office buildings turned into housing as the need for commercial office space lessens.
However, for successful remote working, there needs to be a suitable space set aside. This should have no distractions and operate as a dedicated office. One thing that should never be overlooked is the importance of natural lighting in the home office.

You were definitely right when you said that getting just the right amount of lighting is important to make your home office the best working environment you can. Being too dark could cause you to fall sleepy, and being too bright could cause eye strain as you mentioned. It’s great to hear that blinds can let you adjust the lighting to your preferences. I’ve recently started working from home and was thinking of turning an extra room in our house to a home office for my needs. I’ll definitely look into getting some blinds installed in the place for that lovely natural lighting.
