Hello World! Welcome Friends! Spring is coming soon, and we all know what that means – it’s time to start cleaning up our homes. Well, maybe not for all of us, but a lot of families across the globe take the start of this season as an opportunity to get a fresh start indoors as well as outdoors. Even if you don’t have that as a tradition, though, it may be something to think about.
With that said, though, clearing out our junk and rubbish can certainly be easier said than done. When we do decide to take on such a big project, there’s a lot of planning that has to go into. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing, just something to keep in mind as we discuss the topic. Today, we’ll be delving into a lot of the important stuff that you need to know about the process.
Before we dive in, though, the overarching message that we’d like you to remember is that you don’t have to do this stuff alone. There are plenty of ways that you can get help, whether you lean on family members, friends, or simply hire an outside service to assist. We’ll be covering that and more moving forward though, so stay tuned!
One: Decluttering is a Way to Lower Your Stress
Our first order of business today is to determine what the reason for wanting to get rid of rubbish is in the first place. Obviously, though, there are a whole lot to cover. We’ll start with one that’s pretty all-encompassing. Naturally, when we get rid of some of the junk in our lives, we also end up reducing our stress levels.
How does that work? It’s pretty simple, really. The less you have to worry about dealing with in the home, the less work you’ll have in keeping things nice and tidy. While it might sound kind of difficult to state in such a blanket way, let’s face it – the more crap in our homes, the more we have to clean up.
That’s not to say that everything we own is “crap,” of course. Rather, it’s just pretty important that we understand how reducing clutter can really positively impact us. There’s a difference between “junk” and “important objects,” and at the end of the day, it’s up to our discretion to distinguish between them.
Some strategies that you can use to do that is to figure out whether or not you’re holding onto an object for sentimental reasons or practical reasons. While you don’t necessarily have to throw away anything that you want to keep for sentimentality, it can serve us well to reduce the amount we keep.
Two: You’ll Have More Energy for the Important Things in Life
As you start to clean more and clear more clutter out of your life, you’ll notice things like having more free time. Of course, this won’t be instantaneous – after all, the cleaning process isn’t always a quick one. While there are ways to reduce how much time it will take you, it’s still going to be a factor.
Once it’s all said and done, though, then you’ll be able to reap the rewards of all of that hard work. You’ll be able to spend more time with family and loved ones, of course, as well as take time to pursue your passions. Whether that’s yoga, painting, carving, or anything in between – you can have the opportunity to do all of those fun things.
Three: There’s a Good Chance You Don’t Even Realize Some of the Clutter You Have
When it comes to trying to clear out a ton of junk that we have, there’s a pretty good probability that you don’t realize how much stuff you’ve got. It’s easy for all of that stuff to hide in the nooks and crannies of our homes – especially in drawers and cupboards. So, when you’re doing your spring cleaning, don’t forget to check those spots.
Now, you may be wondering how that actually works out. What might be “hiding” in those spots, so to speak? There are all sorts of things like receipts, expired coupons, and the like. It’s honestly almost fascinating how sneakily things pile up, so do make sure to double check all of those types of spots when you decide to tidy up or declutter.
Four: There’s Going to be Some Prep Work Involved
It’s easy to forget that when we do take the plunge, there are a few steps we’ll want to take beforehand. Of course, to a certain extent it’ll depend on how cluttered your home is. If you’re just doing the usual spring cleanup, then there’s very little likelihood that you’ll need to break out the hazmat suits.
However, that doesn’t mean we can’t get masks to help prevent us from breathing in dust. There’s also the matter of preparing enough cleaning supplies. While we don’t necessarily think of that all the time, it is something to keep in mind if you’re planning on this. Make sure that you have the necessary tools before you dive in – it’s a good motto for approaching much of life!
Five: Sometimes, You’ll Have Regrets
When trying to decide what to throw out, often we worry that we’ll miss an item or regret tossing it out. We’re not here to sugar coat things – admittedly, there is a chance that you’ll end up missing something that you toss. However, we would also like to note that typically, the risk is worth it.
Most of the time, you won’t even remember the bulk of what you tossed. That’s part of the benefit of getting rid of things in bulk, too. Although there are definitely reasons to tidy up at least once a week, the deep clean can happen all at once! That way, there will be some easy methods for rubbish collection afterward!
Six: Throwing Out in Bulk Can Save Money
As you may or may not already know, the city of Sydney is kind of picky about what you’re allowed to toss in your bins each week. While you can get an idea of what to expect on sites like www.ridly.com.au, you can also rest assured that there are additional ways to throw out your trash. This is what we mean by saying that disposing of it in bulk can actually end up saving you some cash.
If you were to bring in an external service several times a month to throw things away, then it would probably end up costing you a lot. However, if you can consolidate it into even just once a month, then the sixty-nine AUD each time won’t be that big of a deal. Of course, it will depend on which service you hire, but there are some that offer it for that low – just something to think about.
Seven: Try Not to Treat Your Home Like a Storage Unit
Since this is a pretty common pitfall, we would like to make note of it here and emphasize that when you’re trying to decide what to get rid of, you try to keep this in mind. While we certainly tend to have space in our homes (at least for our necessities), it’s all too easy to get caught up in keeping certain things over others.
There’s this instinct that we have to keep things around because we can store them. However, just because we can doesn’t mean that we should, and those are certainly words to live by. Sure, we could totally store a year’s worth of receipts, but if we don’t need to, then why should we?
Don’t be afraid to get rid of the extra junk. Your house isn’t a storage unit, and you don’t have to keep every single thing that you can find!
Eight: Throwing Away Items Doesn’t Throw Away the Memories
Something else that a lot of people struggle with is this. Often, it’s hard to differentiate the sentimental value that we see in an object from the actual value of its own. Try taking a step back to analyze each piece at face value.
Remember – just because you toss out a gift or something like that, you aren’t tossing away that person’s love or the memories that you made together. Look at it this way – you’re making space for new memories and items for the future!
Nine: You Don’t Have to Struggle to Remove Junk
One of the most stressful bits about the process of decluttering is facing the prospect of having to try to deal with all the garbage on our own. As we’ve mentioned, though, you don’t have to do it alone.
Instead, you can consider bringing in an external service to take it for you! Typically, they’re not overly expensive, so they can serve as a nice alternative for those of us who have a tighter schedule or tighter budget. It also saves you the trouble of having to get family involved, which can be a hassle on its own.
Ten: Rubbish Removal is a Never-Ending Process
As much as we might want it to end, there’s really no denying that we’ll always have to get rid of the junk that piles up in our homes. Even the bigger stuff like furniture will sometimes need to be thrown out or recycled. It’s these factors that have really inspired the rubbish collection services here in Sydney.
Next time that you’re considering a deep clean, we hope that you remember this advice! While it can seem really overwhelming, there are plenty of tools to help us reduce our stress.
