Hello World! Welcome Friends! Taking a road trip with your family is a fantastic way to spend your summer vacation. If you have an infant, you want to plan ahead to ensure the journey goes as smoothly as possible. Here are a few tips to make your trip a great adventure for everyone.

Pack All the Essentials the Day Before You Leave
Your baby needs different supplies than the rest of the family, so make sure you pack a bag just for them. Bring enough outfits for frequent changes since diapers tend to leak easier in a car seat. To keep them comfortable on the ride, pack a baby pillow and blanket, a pacifier if they use one, and bottles with water or formula ready for emergencies. To make packing easier, put large items like a portable crib or stroller in first, then add smaller items on top. If you pack everything the day before the trip, you only need to focus on getting everyone out the door on time.
Begin Your Trip When Your Baby Is Tired
When you are hoping your child will sleep during your drive, your schedule depends on them and not your preference on travel time. An easy way to make sure your baby is content on the ride is to leave when they are still asleep or about to fall asleep. An early morning departure usually gets you on the road before heavy traffic and allows your baby to fall back to sleep for a few hours. If you choose to wait until an afternoon nap time or late at night, be sure to feed and change them before loading up.
Plan To Stop and Feed Your Infant
Whether you are nursing or bottle-feeding, taking breaks when your child is hungry is a chance for everyone to get out to the car. Find a restaurant that allows all family members to grab a bite to munch on while feeding the baby. If you know that your child eats every three hours, and it takes about half an hour each time, add these stops into your daily travel time plan so you get to your destination on time.
Take Frequent Breaks From Driving
Schedule stops during your trip that aren’t always to grab some food. Getting yourself and your kids out of the car every few hours makes the ride more manageable. Even an infant wants to get out of the car seat and stretch. Research your route and look for sightseeing opportunities that don’t take you too far off your intended drive. Aim for fewer miles each day as the trip continues since children begin to get bored riding long distances in the car.
Know Your Destination
If you are traveling to visit friends and family, send items to their home ahead of time, so you don’t have to pack as many supplies. Things like diapers, wipes and formula are quickly shipped or ordered online and sent directly to their homes. If you are traveling to a vacation destination, research what stores are available and if you can restock your supplies while you’re in town.
Taking a road trip with your infant is an excellent experience for the family. Take the time to plan ahead so the trip goes as smoothly as possible.
