Noise Pollution in the Home
Noise can stress you out. Believe it or not, it can have a huge impact in your life. Having to deal with stress all the time will make anyone feel tired and unproductive. Stress causes the body to release a hormone called cortisol.
Did you know that even as low as 10 decibels of noise can increase your risk of having a heart attack? In addition, lacking the necessary sleep due to noise can affect our overall health condition.
Much of the noise that we encounter each day comes from road traffic noise. If you live near a busy street, you have no choice but to go through each day getting exposed to unwanted sounds. Surprisingly, one study discovered that elevated traffic noise may elevate a child’s risk of developing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).
Noise may come from the sound of barking dogs, a nearby construction site, blasting volume from the TV, and road traffic noise. We can avoid being too stressed from hearing a lot of noise by changing some things in our home.
Reducing Noise Problems at Home
You can’t just let stress rule your life, and not being able to find a solution can affect your overall well-being. Here are some ways to reduce noise problems in your home, and improve your interior style and design as a bonus:
Install sound-proof windows
Noise and sleep generally don’t go well together. One of the best and most convenient ways to protect your home from noise is to replace your old windows with new sound-proof windows. This one-step solution will lead you to instantly sleep comfortably when you need it.
Use sound-absorbent flooring
The type of floor that you have in your home can also affect the quality of sound. To reduce the sound coming from wooden floors that can create creaky noise, invest on wall-to-wall carpeting with a good pad underneath.
Put noise reduction devices nearby
Noise-cancelling headphones can help reduce unwanted ambient sounds. Although they only work with removing low-frequency sounds – such as the noise produced by airplanes – it’s still a good gadget to have.
Consider putting up a fence around your lot
Most modern homes no longer have fences due to the open view that most neighborhoods want to have. However, not having fences around your home allows more sound to go through. For this purpose, a sound barrier fence can significantly reduce outside noises.
Change your ceiling
You may also try installing sound-proof ceilings, which can help you enjoy a more restful sleep. It can also help children to have more focus and concentration when studying.
You don’t have to be burdened all your life having to deal with such stressful situations every day. Although noise is everywhere, knowing some strategies to significantly reduce the amount of noise in our homes can lead us to live more peaceful and less stressful lives.
