Hello World! Welcome Friends! Your bathroom mirror is going to see a lot of action over the years, in fact, it’s one of the most used things in your home, from getting ready for work, to following your skincare ritual, to spending a little too much time inspecting every millimeter of your face, it certainly sees a lot of you.
And while we spend a lot of time looking in the mirror, it can be easy to forget to actually look at the mirror. And boy, have mirrors come a long way. No longer are they just a reflective surface, they can now be your bathroom’s light source, some extra storage, and even better, they can do this and more, while also being ultra-stylish.
The team at Luxe Mirrors have given us some style hints and tips to think about when looking for your next bathroom mirror.
Pick a Shape
While many opt for a traditional rectangular shaped mirror for their bathroom, don’t be afraid to experiment. There are advantages to a rectangular mirror, there is usually a wide visual range and it will work in most spaces. However, your mirror can be a true statement piece and still be completely functional.
If you’re afraid to take the plunge for an extreme shape, a round mirror can draw the eye, and add a nautical feel to your bathroom. And with framed, frameless, and even mirrors with built in lighting, there are countless options available to you.
If you are ready to venture out for something different, you can find something to suit almost any style or taste. You can dip your toe into the shape world with an oval mirror, it’s something different but not too extreme. But if you want to dive right in, why not go for a hexagonal shaped mirror? Or an arched mirror. Something off the beaten track will certainly capture the eye.
Frame It
Frames are another way to enhance your mirror choice, they can add the finishing touch to the theme you are creating for your bathroom. Frames can be made from many different materials, meaning no matter the look or feel you are going for, you should be able to find something simple or ornate, and in any color you desire.
Wooden frames are a great option for a rustic or even beachy vibe for your bathroom, while a black wooden frame can be very simple and traditional.
Frames are also often made of steel, which can be painted any color. Brushed metal framed mirrors have seen a rise in popularity as they can be a way to make your mirror stand out without being too overwhelming.
Or if you really want your mirror to make a statement and be the focal point of the bathroom, look for an intricate, ornate design. With regal vibes, an elaborately framed mirror can completely transform the style of any room of your home. They also make a nice addition to the bathroom as this is a room that is usually all business!
Go Frameless
Or opt for a frameless mirror. Perfect for a modern, minimalist bathroom, a frameless mirror is a simple way to add a bathroom mirror to any home. A frameless mirror also has the ability to both standout and blend in. Being so sleek and simple it draws the eye, but because it doesn’t have any competing features, like a frame, it won’t detract from the overall design of your bathroom.
Traditional With a Twist
One way to stray from the traditional, but not too far, is to opt for a standard shape with some updated features. Think a large rectangular mirror with curved corners instead of sharp. It’s the perfect way to step into something a little different. Mirrors like this have all the benefits of a rectangular mirror, such as the ability to capture more and offer a wider visual scope, but with a touch of modernity. It can also be a way to accentuate the curves of your bathroom or soften the feel of a modern bathroom.
Storage Mirrors
Your mirror can be incredibly practical in more ways than one. In the room that often needs more storage, why not go for a mirror that has some storage built into it. The great news is you don’t need to compromise on style when looking at storage mirrors.
Traditionally, mirrors with storage have been mirrored medicine cabinet styles, and while these are practical, there are options out there with less obvious storage, such as concealed cabinet mirrors where the mirror covers the cabinet completely and acts as the door to the cabinet.
Another storage option is a ledge mirror. This style usually has a ledge attached to the mirror, towards the bottom. While they may not offer as much storage as other cupboards, every little bit counts in the bathroom – plus it’s a nice way to add a decorative element to your bathroom, like a little vase.
Illumination
Make your bathroom mirror the star of the room by selecting one that has lighting built into it. Like one with storage, a mirror with lighting really makes it serve more than one purpose. Bathrooms often do not have the best lighting but it’s the place where you need good lighting – a mirror with built in LED lighting can help solve this problem. And if your bathroom is a little on the small side, your mirror can be the only light source to save on space.
A backlit LED mirror is a great option for creating a relaxing atmosphere for your bathroom. No matter what shape you opt for, the warm soft glow of the lights from behind the mirror can completely transform the bathroom into your number one relaxation zone. And if you opt for a round backlit mirror that glow might just be a little more heavenly.
Add a Touch of Glamour
While we did touch on framed and frameless mirrors earlier, another option that deserves its own category is a bevel edge mirror. These mirrors ooze sophistication and are a simple way of drawing attention to your mirror without committing to a color or theme of a frame.
Available in any shape or size, a mirror with a bevel edge is hard not to take notice of. The subtle detail has a way of drawing the eye to it and will always have a glamorous feel regardless of the shape or size of the mirror. A traditional rectangular mirror can feel so much more exciting with a bevel edge and still be as practical and work in any style bathroom.
There is no rule saying that you can only have one mirror in your bathroom. While one or even two is not unheard of – why not opt for more and create a gallery wall of mirrors? For the more adventurous amongst us, multiple mirrors in your bathroom could really reflect you and your style.
If you don’t want to stray too far from the norm though, if you have two basins in your bathroom, why not opt for two matching mirrors. It is still a way to make a statement and will definitely stop any arguments over who is hogging the mirror.
These are just some of the hints and tips the team at Luxe Mirrors has to help you find your next bathroom mirror – in fact they have a whole guide on how to choose your bathroom mirror – view article here.
