Hello World! Welcome Friends! Starting your own vegetable garden is becoming an increasingly popular option. You may be doing it for the satisfaction of growing your own produce, to drive your overheads down or even to reduce your personal impact on the environment. Using a mushroom grow kit will enable you to cultivate a variety of fresh mushrooms right at home.
Whatever the reason you’ll be joining an impressive number of people. In 2008 there were 36 million households in the US with home vegetable gardens. By 2013 this had risen to 42 million and the figure is still rising.
If you’re getting ready to start then you will need the following tips to help you get started:

Create Your Space
You probably already have a space in mind for your vegetable garden. However, you may not have considered using raised beds. This is a great way of reducing weed issues and ensuring the quality of your soil.
It will take more time to create the beds but it is worth the effort. One point to note is that a bed should never be wider than 4 feet. This will make sure that you can reach into the middle of the bed and deal with all your planting needs.
You don’t need to use wood; rock or almost any other material can be used to create good raised beds.
Think About Weeds
It is important to think about weeds before you start planting. A raised bed will reduce the ability of weeds to spread from other areas to your vegetable beds.
However it is worth using weed control fabric and taking a look at theses electric weed eater reviews. This will help to ensure that the weeds are kept away.
If you don’t do this then you’re likely to find that your vegetables suffer; the weeds will take the nutrients and grow instead of your vegetables.
Enrich The Soil
It is also very important to get the soil quality right.
As you’re doing raised beds you’ll need to fill them with something. The best idea is to do a 50/50 mix with soil from elsewhere in your garden and either compost or mushroom soil.
Start With Seedlings
While it’s a wonderful feeling to have grown your own vegetables from seeds you will find it is easier to use seedlings in the first year.
This will give you the opportunity to get the soil balance right, your watering schedule and keep the weeds at bay. This is enough to do for your first year when there will be plenty of opportunities for trial and error.
Know Your Area
It is advisable to know which plants grow well in your local area and start with these. You’ll gain an understanding of the best time to plant and can be confident that they have the right conditions to grow in.
One Step At A Time
You may wish to grow 20 or 30 different types of vegetables but this is a lot of work! It is a better idea to take it one step at a time. You can concentrate your efforts on just 2 or 3 vegetables and get them right. Then you’ll be able to add an extra couple each year.

Thanks for the tips! We’re doing our own veggies at home too. The cherry tomatoes are doing the best right now. We have some green bell peppers that should be ready for picking soon. It’s fun to garden and kids love helping out. #Bloggersbest
