Hello World! Welcome Friends! Every now and again we all get the urge to spruce up our living spaces and change things up a bit. When the urge hits, every wall and surface, nook and cranny present a great opportunity for creative and even artistic expression.
And while some people like to focus most on their interiors, others like to take their decorating efforts outside.
With winter slowly approaching, it may be the perfect time to consider where can I buy a nativity set, in order to ensure that you have everything set and ready to go by the time Christmas decorations enter the scene.
So, with that in mind, let’s see how you can make your home Christmas-ready ahead of time.
Declutter, Clean, Organize
The first step of every sprucing up attempt should be to first declutter, clean and organize the space, so that you’re left with a clean canvas you can then build upon.
In order to do a thorough declutter, you should first group all of the items from the said space on a single pile and see which items get to stay and which ones you should part with. Decorating a cluttered space will not only make it more difficult, but it will also take away from the enjoyment. So,
- Anything you’re not using regularly should be either sold or donated
- Anything that’s been broken for a while should either be repaired immediately, or discarded – since you probably won’t repair it, if you haven’t done so already
- Anything you have multiples of you should reassess and see if you actually need so many repeats; chances are that you don’t, so make sure you give all extras away as well
Once you’ve gotten rid of all of the unnecessary things all of us tend to accumulate over time, it’s time to clean your space thoroughly. To get into the right holiday spirit, you can even use a pine-infused cleaning solution to make your home not only look, but also smell ready for Christmas.
After everything has been scrubbed and is now squeaky clean, you’ll need to organize all the things you’re left with, and ensure that every item has its dedicated place. If you’re still left with plenty of things after the organization phase, chances are you don’t really need all of them, so you can take on another round of decluttering before you’re finally done.
Replace Out-of-Season Decor
You can begin your winter and Christmas decorating efforts as soon as all of the fall festivities come to an end – or even sooner than that, if you prefer. So, first, make sure you take down all of your decor pieces that are no longer in season, so that you can make room for the new ones.
This will also allow you the opportunity to go through those decor pieces and get rid of anything that’s damaged, broken or no longer serves its purpose.
You can also decide to donate your out-of-season decor, so that you can go shopping for new items the next time the season rolls around, without feeling guilty or accumulating too much unnecessary mess in your basement or attic.
Go Through Your Existing Christmas Decor Thoroughly
With a clean slate, you can now start bringing your existing winter and Christmas decor out of its storage.
Make sure you take out everything you own, so that you can more accurately assess whether you need to purchase more decorations, or will the existing ones be enough for the season. Again, if anything’s damaged or broken, you should get rid of it. If you conclude that you have plenty of decorations you no longer vibe with, donate them and grant yourself an excuse for the next seasonal shopping spree.
If you have any decor pieces that are no longer in mint condition, but you’re emotionally attached to them for whatever reason, see if you can spruce them up a bit – or make them a part of your new decor, and bring back at least a spark of their previous shine.
Prepare Your Yard
Finally, once your indoors and porch are completely taken care of and you’re satisfied with the job done, it’s time to take your efforts outdoors.
The first course of action will be to inspect your lawn and see if your grass needs cutting, your shrubs need trimming and if there’s plenty of leaves and dried, fallen branches that need to be removed.
As soon as you get everything looking neat and tidy, start planning out your decor layout. That way you can easily determine exactly which decor pieces you need, and see which of them you already own and which you should get down to attempting to acquire.
And when all of this is done, and your new decor is up and ready for the upcoming season, make sure you make yourself a nice cup of hot cocoa, sit back and enjoy the view.
