Hello World! Welcome Friends! Spring is here and my garden is really starting to blossom. Everyday there seems to be a new bloom and new growth appears on the trees. I wanted to show you the garden last year, but we had a bad freeze in February 2021 and it didn’t really look all that great last year. With a year of care, pruning and feeding, the garden is looking so much better. May I introduce:
My Quaint Cottage Front Garden
Brick details along the sidewalk and the top of the wing wall really help to give the garden that quaint feeling. We have a gardener that comes once a week to mow the yard and do any little jobs that need to be done such as weeding and trimming the hedges if Greg and I are too busy. However, we try to get to things right when we notice them so that they do not get out of control.
A few weeks back, we had a tree company come out and shore up the canopies of the Oak trees and “lollipop” their shape so they will keep a nice shape up top as they grow.
We will power wash the sidewalks and driveway once the season of pollen has died down. Also, on the list, but probably not this year is to get new garage doors. These still work just fine, but they are a little tired looking.
Tree wise in our front garden alone, we have 2 Oaks, 3 Crape Myrtles, and 2 trees that are between the sidewalk and the street. I’m not too sure what type of trees they are, but I keep them small so that the root system doesn’t overtake the sidewalk and yard. It is quite beautiful, but there are way too many trees for our little garden plot.
I have some roses from my neighbor that we transplanted, however they are not looking all that great at the moment. They have been pruned and fed. So, now I wait to see if they will like their new home.
Here’s a look at my side yard heading to the back garden. The hedges on the left cover up the view of the neighbor’s ac units. The windows to the right are to the Dining Room. The Crape Myrtles in the back are coming in nicely and there are sprouts of life on the big Cypress tree.
I love the view from my office window.
I love the curve of the walkway to the front door. Another thing on our to-do list is to replace the light above the arch. In addition, we need new up lights. There are four of them on the front of the house and they are the original lights. But, with years of rain, their protective seal has worn away and they no longer work.
The front porch is tiny and there really isn’t room to put much out in the way of decor. Oh, and another project is to re-stain the front door. It is a little worn on the bottom. It is definitely looking a little weathered.
The wreath and top rug are new this year.
How do you like my quaint cottage front garden? I have plans to put bulbs around the two little trees by the street and the three Crape Myrtles in the Fall. Also, the bed to the side of the driveway in front of the garage window needs more filling in. There are transplanted roses there as well. Once I see how they do, I’ll make a decision about filling in with plants or leaving the roses. That’s it for now. Next week, I hope you will come back to check out a recipe I made from Once Upon a Chef.

Love the curve in your walk and that view to the front door. It all looks lovely. Your garage doors don’t look bad in the photos, but maybe just paint would refresh them enough. — try a darker color from the brick. I was so surprised when we painted our garage door a darker color; it receded visually and I liked it a lot.

Thank you so much, Elle! We have thought of painting the garage doors and like the idea of going darker. Of course pending HOA approval. LOL. Have a great day!
