Hello World! Welcome Friends! Although some people may have doubted them when they first started popping up, there is no doubt now that smart homes are things that are here to stay for good. However, these types of homes are still not that widespread across the country with many houses in the UK not containing any sort of smart technology in them at all.
In order for a home to be smart, it must be connected to the Internet via a good broadband connection so that the various pieces of technology can connect to it. This process is called automation and enables the remote control and monitoring of these smart pieces of technology. Although all of this may sound a little complicated, having a smart home can benefit your life greatly.

Internet of Things (IoT)
As smart home tech is slowly becoming way more accessible to households across the country, it has seen the rise of a range of certain phrases and terminology, such as ‘domotics’ and ‘home automation’. With home automation, individuals are able to remotely access devices and pieces of smart technology that are inside of their house. For instance, it has now become possible to adjust and monitor a range of different controls from a great distance, including domestic appliances, lighting, temperature, and even home cinemas. Mayflower London are one of several companies that are able to install fully automated home cinemas in your house in order to provide you with a luxury experience from the comfort of your own sofa.
In order for all of this to be able to work, there must be an Internet connection within the home, as this is the blood stream that allows for full automation of the home to occur. This is because smart home gadgets are typically connected to hubs like computers, apps, or terminals, and an Internet connection is required for this so that they can be accessed by the homeowner. With this technology being so reliant on the Internet, the term Internet of Things (IoT) was coined. IoT development and consulting companies provide devices manufacturers with a platform to interact and communicate with one another and in doing so the sum becomes greater than all of the individual parts. The IoT allows aspects of the home that were typically overlooked to be connected, including smoke detectors, door locks, fridges, security systems, energy meters, domestic robots, and washing machines.
Thanks to all of this, the automation of the home is becoming more and more popular with consumers and is said to be worth billions of pounds in the UK. This is only set to increase further as it transforms from something that was designed to simply save effort and time into something that is controlled via artificial intelligence, such as the Amazon Alexa. With the IoT continually growing, in the not too distant future, it will be used to collect data on how devices within your home are used. From this, trends are produced and are used by manufacturers in order to develop new features or make improvements to the devices that they make.
Looking to the Future
In the years to come it will not only be homes that go smart but also the towns and cities that we live in. This will benefit the homes that we live in as more and more devices will be designed to incorporate smart technology in them. As the demand for these types of products increases, it will have an effect of lowering the price of the sensors that are used in them as an essential component of the technology. This will have the effect of making smart home devices more prevalent across more properties throughout the country and changing this type of tech from something that is currently seen as a somewhat luxury to an absolute standard essential.
Although trends within the tech world have the potential to quickly come and go, people will always own and live in houses – that trend is not going anywhere. This assurance will only inspire tech companies to continue their research into new smart technology and devices, as well as focusing resources into home automation app development to provide homeowners with a greater level of control. The latest research indicates that by the year 2022, the average person will have over 500 separate smart devices working away inside their home. This is based on the fact that there has been a huge upswing in homes adopting smart technology since the year 2017. In fact, the research states that some 60 percent of homeowners are looking to integrate more tech into their house. The reason for this is based on the understanding that such devices will work to make living in their home much easier and more efficient, thus saving them money.
What the Experts Say
When it comes to our future homes, the predictions made by futurists and other experts are very bold. Come the year 2030 when the global population has expanded to a point of over 8.5 billion people, smart home devices will provide a solution to overcrowding through the concept of co-living. Shared living areas could even become mobile through the introduction of dwelling pods.
By the year 2040, the technology may have reached a point whereby robots will become fully integrated into the whole of society – just like in the movies. There is the possibility that artificial intelligence has advanced far enough that robots are able to coexist alongside us humans. This could be used within our homes to perform a wide range of tasks in order to make our lives easier and more comfortable.
It is clear to see then that regardless of the exact specifics, smart homes of the future are going to be much more advanced than what they currently are. Thanks to the Internet of Things (IoT), expect more household devices to become smart in the coming years. As these become increasingly popular manufacturers will be encouraged to throw more time and money into developing them even further, eventually leading us to the point of the year 2040 when robots perform the vast majority of jobs within our home.
