Hello World! Welcome Friends! Are you worried that your small kitchen can never comfortably fit all your appliances and still look decent at the same time? While living with limited kitchen space can be frustrating, there are several tactics one can use to manage storage space effectively and still look nice. It may seem like an impossible feat, but with a little creativity, it is very doable to keep all your precious kitchen appliances. It just may require thinking a bit outside the box when it comes to organizing. Thankfully, there are tons of little tips and tricks you can use to make the most of your kitchen space without making it seem too cluttered and also maintaining your unique charm.
The property managers at Utopia Management in San Luis Obispo are in and out of apartments all day and see their fair share of innovative ideas. They shared these tips with us on how to maximize the space in your small home or apartment kitchen.
1. Use Empty Wall Space
Don’t let wall space go unused! This is one of the easiest ways to add more storage space into your tiny kitchen. Put in shelves to make up for limited cupboard space. You can stack anything from appliances to food to your dishes and glassware. You’ll be surprised how much space this saves you.
2. Dishes in Drawers
Finding a cupboard to fit all your dishes can be challenging, so why not get creative and use some deep pull-out drawers as storage for plates and bowls? You can buy adjustable plate holders that fit different-sized plates and even remove them all at once to make setup for meals quick and smooth.
3. Hanging Rack for Pots and Pans
This is an excellent way to store your pots and pans. No more clanking around, searching in cupboards trying to find the right sized pan. Installing a hanging rack from your ceiling allows you to clearly see all your pot and pan options without making a loud racket. It provides quick and easy access without the fuss and noise. Also, by utilizing the ceiling, this allows for more storage space in other areas for the remainder of your kitchen items.
4. Cutting Board Over the Sink
Not enough counter space? Make your own! There are several different sizes and brands of cutting boards you can buy that will fit right over your sink. These can act as a valuable surface that most certainly comes in handy when prepping food.
5. Hooks Inside and On Sides of Cabinets
Get creative with hooks. You can hang smaller items like measuring cups on the inside of cabinet doors and larger cooking utensils on the outside of cabinets as well. As you look around more, you’ll notice there are so many spaces that can be utilized by hanging hooks.
6. Kitchen Cart!
Still not enough counter space? A smart solution to this problem is purchasing a rolling kitchen cart. This provides another surface for cutting and some brands even have the top as an actual cutting board. You can use the shelves underneath for more storage, which is always valuable, and just roll it off to the side or in another room when not using it. A great addition to any small kitchen.
7. Drawer Organizer
A great way to fit various kitchen items into drawers efficiently is by using baskets and sectionals to help organize. It’s surprising how much will fit in a drawer when things are neatly grouped together. Having a specified place for each item will also make them much easier and quicker to find. This is especially helpful for organizing your different tea bags and could even inspire you to try new and healthy flavors like Jasmine tea. You can mix and match different size sectionals and containers to see what works best for your drawers. Say goodbye to scatterbrained kitchen drawers and make your life a bit easier when preparing meals.
8. Pegboard Wall With Hooks
One of the easiest and trendiest ways to store your cookware and other appliances is to hang them on a pegboard on your kitchen wall. Hooks can be arranged at different angles to hang different size cookware, mugs, and utensils. Make it your own by painting the pegboard a nice color to fit the character of your kitchen.
Moving into a space with a smaller kitchen doesn’t necessarily mean you need to throw out half of your kitchen appliances. Use these little tips and tricks to help you make the most of your kitchen space without making it seem too cluttered. You can absolutely have the cozy, cute and practical kitchen that you’ve always wanted.
