Hello World! Welcome Friends! Plumbing can be an issue that’s frequent in some homes. Depending of course, on how well you look after your drainage systems. There are a number of signs that can indicate bad drains or piping within your drains in general.
By identifying these signs, you’ll hopefully be able to avoid further damage and problems to the drainage system in and around your home. Here are six signs of a plumbing problem on your property.
Bad Smells
One of the most common signs that your drains aren’t too healthy, is a bad smell. There’s nothing quite as nasty nor dismissive as the smell of drains. The sewage smell is distinguishable amongst many other smells that can sometimes be found around the home.
If you find yourself smelling something foul like sewage, then pay attention as to whether it’s coming from a particular drain. Some might be coming from indoor drains, while others might be coming from the outside.
By detecting the bad smell, you’ll be able to pinpoint what drain has the problem and hopefully, it’ll be a relatively surface problem that can be reached down that drain in particular.
Increase in Water Bill
Leaks within your plumbing can often be a headache to deal with, not only causing physical damage but damage to your finances too. Water bills and energy bills in general seem to be going up more and more, which means you want to try and decrease it where you can.
A sign of a significant increase could be down to a leak within your plumbing. To avoid an increase in your water bill, you should fix any compromised leaks as quickly as possible. As a temporary measure, switch the water off to the area where you suspect the leak is coming from. It might be in some cases, that the water needs to go off completely until the fix is done.
A Low Water Pressure
If the water pressure within your home has dropped recently, this might be down to a problem with your plumbing. It might not be just a plumbing problem, but something that’s being caused by your heating system in general.
Your heating system can often be an issue when it comes to low water pressure. With a heating system, it might be that a certain part of it is broken or faulty. Hence the low water pressure! There’s nothing quite as frustrating as having low water pressure, especially when running baths, showering and trying to fill your kitchen sink.
Strange Sounds
Strange sounds are often something you’d become aware of quite quickly. Whether you’ve lived in the property for a while now or merely a few days, you’ll soon become acquainted with the sounds of the home.
From the front doorbell going off, to the sounds of your bathtub drain gurgling away after releasing the plug. Whenever a sound is not quite the same as it should be, it’s something you’ll take notice of.
These strange sounds are something to be aware of, especially when it comes to your plumbing. If the strange sound comes from your drains or near to your heating system, then this is something you want to get seen straight away. Be aware that your heating system will also likely make certain noises, some of which might not be right.
Stains and Damp Spots
A plumbing problem will often come with audible sounds but there will also be visual signs that there’s an issue.
If there are some unusual stains forming on your walls or floors, then this could be an indication of a leak or pipes that might not be in the best condition and may be causing further damage. For example, if they’re rusting away, then this could eventually stain your walls. The same goes for water damage staining surfaces.
Damp spots might also occur, which is something to be aware of as this is a clear indicator that there’s a problem with your pipes and plumbing in general.
Cracks in the Foundation of the Property
Cracks are common within the foundations of a property, a lot of this might be down the simple wear and tear. However, there are some problems that come from plumbing that can cause cracks. Where foundation cracks occur from plumbing problems, it’s important to fix these quickly before they compromise your property.
