Hello World! Welcome Friends! There are many events out there that are stressful and leave you with a busy mind that you can’t seem to shut down. Being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer is one of those events. Even though you may be working on a pancreatic cancer natural treatment with your doctor, it’s hard to turn your mind off and let the treatment take its course. There are a few hobbies out there that you should consider that will calm your mind and let you get away from the stark reality of your disease for a while. In this blog, you can find a few of those hobbies that you might want to consider.
Gardening
Gardening is not only great for calming your mind, but it’s also a rewarding hobby. The smells, sunlight, breeze and just being out in nature itself works as a great stress reliever. The repetitive nature of gardening is what allows you to relax and soothe your mind. It’s also good for you physically, as the digging, planting, weed pulling, and harvesting work your muscles and can strengthen your bones.
Listen to Music
The power of music has been used for years now to reduce stress and soothe the mind. It’s also perhaps the most used medium of art and healing. Music has been known to soothe the soul, reduce pain, improve cognitive health, and reduce anxiety. Whether you’re listening to your favorite band on your iPod, watching music videos on YouTube, or composing your own music on paper, the power of music to calm you can’t be denied.
Painting/Drawing
Painting and drawing therapy has been effective at calming and soothing the mind. Different colors have different energy levels and can inspire different moods. It’s a creative hobby and opens your mind up, giving you a sharper and more focused picture of the world around you.
Reading and Writing
There is nothing more calming than getting absorbed in a good book to forget your cares for a while. Writing is also a great outlet for your feelings and a way to forget about the world around you as well. Writing down your feelings has also been known to promote healing and wellness. If you love to read, try picking up a pen, you’d be surprised at what you might be able to dig out of your own imagination and get down on paper.
Pet Keeping
Petting a dog or having a cat purring in your lap can be a pretty calming activity. Living with pets has been proven to help with anxiety, stress relief, and even some physical problems such as lowering high blood pressure. It’s important to note, however, that keeping a pet is more than just a calming hobby. There is extreme responsibility and work involved in keeping a pet, but it comes with very high rewards as well. Some pets that work well for calming the mind are listed below.
- Birds
- Fish
- Rabbits
- Cats
- Dogs
- Ferrets
- And guinea pigs
Biking
Biking with all of its gears and repetitive motions has been proven to be a great hobby for soothing the mind and allows you to get exercise in moderation. It’s the perfect way to clear your mind and live in the present, instead of worrying about the future to come.
While hobbies are a great way to have fun and get away from a stressful situation, they are not meant to replace reality. If you feel yourself becoming more and more depressed, then it’s time to talk to your doctor about other possible solutions for your depression and the undue stress you’re under.
