Hello World! Welcome Friends! We hear so much about being ‘green’ and how we should all be making changes in our lives to be this way, but what does it all mean? Green is often referred to as being eco-friendly, which is all about living in a way that isn’t going to cause harm to the environment. Living in this kind of way is something that is becoming more and more important, as we all need to take some steps to care for our planet.
The good news is that there are a number of ways that we as individuals can make these changes, to be able to reduce the amount of impact our lives have on the planet. Some of the biggest changes that we can make as individuals start in our homes. From reducing the amount of electricity that we use, to choosing plant-based products over chemical ones, we can take small steps that can make a big difference. Here are some areas to think about.
Look to Use Renewable Sources of Energy
One of the big ways that you can make a difference to how green your home is by investing into renewable sources of energy for your electricity. The majority of households use power from the grid, where the power source is gas or oil which is not sustainable. You may have already seen a number of homes where you live using solar panels, as a way to completely power the home, or to partially power the home, and it can make a real difference.
The Chief Operating Officer at Green Solar Technologies, Edward Harner, has talked about how solar panels are here to stay, and set to become bigger, so why not be a part of it? Of course, there are some upfront costs to getting these in your home. But when you think of them as a long-term investment, as they will save you money on your energy bills, it can be worth it.
Choose Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products
If you’ve ever looked at the back of some cleaning products there are a number of symbols warning problems to humans if they come into contact with skin or eyes, for example, as well as being harmful to aquatic life. This isn’t the kind of product that is going to be good for the environment if it can infect and kill the waters that it drains into. Instead, look to use eco-friendly cleaning products in the home. The best labels to look for are those that are cruelty-free and vegan, and that contain no synthetic ingredients. Then you’ll be using something that will do the job, but not cause harm as a result of using it.
Wash Laundry on Cold
If you want to have a home that is greener, then washing laundry in the cold is a good idea. Laundry detergents still clean at these temperatures, but it means that you need to use up less power to heat the water. When using an unsustainable power source, as mentioned above, then it can cause damage to the environment, not to mention your heating bill. Avoid using the dryer if you can as well, in order to reduce your need for excess electricity.
