Hello World! Welcome Friends! In recent years, the residential use of solar power has drastically increased. Not only does it provide an environmental benefit, but it also saves significant money on utility bills.
Not everyone knows if it’s the best option for them, though. Not sure where to start? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.
Let’s take a look at everything you need to know about whether or not you should install solar panels.
1. Is Your Roof Suitable For Installation?
Since solar panels are so integrated into a home’s roof, it’s almost impossible to make repairs without removing the panels first. So, if your roof is old, damaged, or otherwise needs to be fixed, it’s best to do so before installation. Otherwise, you’ll likely run into significant complications in the future.
2. Does Your Home Get Enough Sunlight?
Those who live in states or regions that don’t get a lot of direct sunlight won’t benefit very highly from solar panel installation. For example, someone who lives in Arizona will get far more utility out of their solar panels than someone who lives in Washington.
This isn’t to say, though, that you need to have direct sunlight every day the year to get your money’s worth from solar panels. Some of the best states for solar panel installation include:
- Texas
- New Mexico
- California
- Florida
- North Carolina
These are only suggestions, however— solar panels will always help you save money over a long period of time.
3. How Expensive Is Your Electric Bill?
Those who live in areas with higher electricity rates will benefit more than those who have relatively cheap electricity bills. While families that pay lower amounts on their electric bill each month can still benefit from solar panels and pay for themselves over a shorter period time if you’re saving money on high costs.
So, compare your area’s electricity rates with that of the national average to determine if the investment is worth pursuing from your local solar company.
4. Are There Local Regulations You Need to Consider?
Sometimes, there are permits you’ll need to acquire before you can begin installing this type of technology into your home. In some cases, you may not be able to do so at all (such as if your local homeowner’s association bars you from doing so).
If you can acquire the proper permit, though, it’s essential that you follow all of the necessary guidelines. Otherwise, you may be forced to remove your system or completely re-install it in order for it to be compliant with city codes.
Deciding If You Should Install Solar Panels Can Seem Difficult
This doesn’t have to be the case. With the above information about whether or not you should install solar panels in mind, you’ll be well on your way toward making the decision that’s best for you.
