Hello World! Welcome Friends! Whether you have chosen to take on a new business venture from within the confines of your home or the current health concerns associated with the ongoing pandemic have forced you into working remotely from home, making the most of your new home office is a must!
First Steps: Covering Your Bases
If you are starting a new venture, Cory Briggs San Diego business attorney recommends consulting with a lawyer before doing anything else. He recommends working with someone who specializes in start-up law because setting up your home office may not seem as straightforward because creating a productive space can vary from person to person.
Color Matters
Before you get to fill your office with the tools you need to do your job, the first thing you do is paint the walls. With countless color schemes available, how do you know what color walls would be the best to work in? Certain colors promote different types of productivity.
Greens and blues are the most popular colors to promote a happy and effective workplace. These hues offer a sense of peace and calm. In contrast, red, being a passionate color, increases your heart rate. If you have a physical job or want to draw someone’s immediate attention to something, use red.
If you have a job that requires a certain amount of creativity, such as artists or writers, yellow is an optimistic and energetic color that would best be suited to promote creativity.
Location
To maximize productivity, find a secluded, quiet place with good lighting. If you are able to also be in close proximity to a window, the natural light, and fresh air is advantageous. When choosing your office space, having access to electrical outlets will also prove ease of use for computers and other required office tools, like lights.
Lighting is an important consideration for your workspace. You should have two different light sources; one overhead and another on the desk or table you are working at. Poor or inadequate lighting can cause eye strain. With all the time your eyes spend looking at monitors, you don’t want to add to it by not having the right kind of lighting.
Keep your workspace separate from where you relax. Not only does having all of your work-related stuff kept in one place help you stay organized, but it also helps you to keep your personal time and work time two different entities. Working where you are meant to relax, and vice versa will impede your ability to do either when you need to.
Personal Comfort
You can’t be productive if you aren’t comfortable. When choosing a work surface, find one that is at elbow height when you are seated. If you are seated at an awkward angle, you can get sore or achy because of the way you are positioned.
Opt for a chair as opposed to the alluring comfort of the sofa or bed. Make sure when you’re seated, your thighs are parallel with the floor and your feet are able to rest comfortably, either flat on the floor or on a footrest.
When setting up your computer, make sure the top third of the monitor is at eye level and about an arm’s length away from you. Having either set up differently can cause you discomfort and even pain. If you do notice any aches, it’s your body’s way of telling you it’s not happy with your current setup. Research computer stands benefits, and you’ll find that using one can help improve your overall posture. Not only will that make you more comfortable in the long run, but it can also help prevent any future health issues.
You can only be as productive as you feel. If you are able to set your office up in a way that is conducive to productivity, sprinkled with personal touches for extra motivation, you will feel better about completing your tasks.
