Hello World! Welcome Friends! I hope everyone had a great weekend. Life has been busy here at The Dedicated House. School started which has us adjusting to a new sleep schedule which I am not doing well at managing. I’ve been really wanting to take a nap every afternoon, but I push through hoping to be super sleepy when bedtime rolls around. My body seems to have different ideas.
The shutters arrived and were installed in my office. However, since they are huge (almost 8 feet in height and 6 feet in width), they will need some adjustments. The Master Carpenter who made them is working on his schedule to come to our house and adjust them onsite.
Hooray, the laundry room is finished!! We were waiting on me to get some time to finish painting the door that leads from the primary closet to the laundry room as well as the frame surrounding the door. We will get that hung this coming weekend and then I can show you my pretty laundry room. In addition, I’ve started work on the primary closet. I cleared out one side purging as I pulled items out. I had no idea I had such a collection of scarves! The things you find when you start going through your items!
In the kitchen we had a new refrigerator delivered on Sunday. The seal on one of the freezer drawers was not doing its job and the freezer portion had major frost buildup. So, we decided to move that refrigerator into the garage for extra drink storage…oh, and paint brush storage!
In the meantime, I thought I would share a recipe we recently tried: Sausage and Peppers Burgers from Ree Drummond.
Sausage and Peppers Burgers
It’s not the prettiest looking burger; a food stylist I am not! But let me tell you it was so good! I promise you there is meat under that mound of peppers. We don’t eat burgers very often, but when we do we definitely prefer homemade.
Sausage and Peppers Burgers
Ingredients
- 2 tbsp olive oile
- 2 red bell peppers, sliced
- 1 large onion, sliced
- 1 tsp kosher salt, plus more to taste
- 1 tsp black pepper, plus more to taste
- 3 garlic cloves, sliced
- 1/2 cup pizza sauce
- 1/2 cup water
- 2 lb ground beef
- 1 lb sweet Italian sausage, casings removed
- 1/2 tsp dried ground sage
- 1/2 tsp dried oregano
- 6 slices provolone cheese
- 6 hamburger buns
- Torn fresh basil, for topping
Instructions
- Preheat a grill to medium. Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the bell peppers and onion and season with a pinch each of salt and pepper. Cook, stirring frequently, until lightly browned and just tender, 8 to 10 minutes. Add the garlic and cook until just softened, about 1 more minute. Stir in the pizza sauce and 1/2 cup water and simmer until thickened but still saucy, about 5 minutes. Set aside and keep warm.
- Combine the beef, sausage, sage, oregano and 1 teaspoon each salt and pepper in a large bowl. Mix with your hands until well combined. Form into six 1-inch thick patties (about 4 1/2 inches wide). Season the patties with salt and pepper.
- Grill the burgers until cooked through, 6 to 7 minutes per side; top each with a slice of cheese during the last 1 to 2 minutes and cover to melt. Served the burgers on the buns and top with the peppers, onion and basil.
It is really one of the best burger recipes I have tried! If you give it a try, please let me know!
