Hello World! Welcome Friends! If you want to keep your backyard swimming pool looking fresh and clean for years to come, there’s simply no shortcut for proper maintenance.
Maintenance involves a host of different methods and procedures, not to mention man hours, but today we’re going to talk about the importance of resurfacing your swimming pool every few years.
First things first. If you’re wondering if it’s time to resurface your pool, there are certain signs that can guide you on your way. Eddie Sanchez, owner of Sanchez Pools, the top builder in San Antonio says “Look for stains that seem to be growing regularly or leaks in certain areas or even a texture that’s become rougher than usual.”
These are all signs you may want to consider a resurfacing project during the next off-season. It should only take a week or so to complete, weather permitting, and you’ll be good to go for the summer to come.
Like any other home improvement project, there are a series of steps required to complete a proper pool resurfacing project. And unless you have the right tools and experience needed to undergo such a complicated process, you should first find the best swimming pool professional to do the job.
But assuming you’ve already hired someone to do the work, the following steps will need to be performed in order. And rest assured that any industry professional worth his license will be doing so.
Draining The Pool
This should seem obvious, but you first need to drain all of the water from the pool before actually beginning the project.
Preparing The Pool
This usually involves things like sandblasting, stripping and other tasks that need to be completed at the beginning of a resurfacing project. You’re removing old and/or damaged surface materials and preparing the pool to receive new materials of your choosing.
Tile And Masonry
This is the step where the pool tile that you’ve chosen will be installed and other decorative features will also be added.
Plumbing and Sealing
You need your pool to be water-tight, so this is where the plumbing is sealed and your pool is prepared for surface finishing.
Pool Finish Materials
This is the step where the pool surface finish materials you selected are installed and the pool begins taking shape.
Pool Filling And Cleanup
This step is exactly what it sounds like, cleaning up the debris from the project and refilling the pool with water. You’ll want to keep an eye on things, however, as you don’t want the pool to become overfilled.
Initial Water Treatment
Once the pool has been refilled with water, it may seem like the project is complete. But before you can wrap things up and start swimming again, you first need to ensure that you’re taking the steps necessary for the pool to cure as evenly as possible. This will take place for the first week or so after completion of the project, with regular monitoring and servicing required during that time period.
A few common questions regarding resurfacing projects:
What is the average cost to resurface a pool?
This obviously varies depending on the size and shape of your swimming pool, but expect to pay an average of around $5 to $7 per square foot for materials and a few hundred dollars for labor.
These are only guidelines, however, so it’s best to get written estimates from several swimming pool companies in your area and then proceed accordingly.
How often does a pool need resurfacing?
Around 10-15 years for concrete swimming pools is a good estimate to go by. But as with anything else, it could be shorter or longer depending on how well it’s been taken care of.
When is the best time of year to resurface your pool?
The best time to undertake a pool resurfacing project in the United States is generally between the months of October and April. This gives you enough time to complete the work and be sure that all is well before the arrival of summer.
