Hello World! Welcome Friends! How can such a tiny room cause so much angst? Maybe it’s the small space and the fact I sorta don’t like to feel cramped. I’m not claustrophobic, I just don’t like the feeling of not having enough room to turn around. Not that I need to pirouette in my Powder Room, but it would be a lot easier to move the 6 ft. ladder around if there was a tad bit more space.
Everyday, I have made a commitment to myself to work on some aspect of this tiny room. I will say this, that it seems that the odds have not been in my favor for getting this sucker done. Nevertheless, I press on, forgetting the non plumb walls, wallpaper debacle, and now the faucet. Well, not completely forgetting the pretty faucet, just a delay. Greg was all set to take the old faucet off and install the golden beauty. Well, the old faucet was being quite cantankerous and had a large stuck nut inside that refused to budge. So, we had to order some special tool in order to release said stuck nut. We finally got said special tool and the blasted nut has been taken care of!
And the mini wall shelving unit I found in my decor stash isn’t going to work. It’s a little too deep. The placement was going to be opposite of the toilet. Not to be too graphic, but one might hit their head rising from the seated position on the toilet; and the men folk might feel a little too cramped when doing their business. You catch my drift? So, now I need to get some floating shelves and a new trash can because the trash can I was going to use is a match set with the mini shelving unit. You just can’t break up a pair. Or, at least I can’t. So, I have added shopping to my to do list. Darn it!
When I’m feeling like a loser for not getting the Powder Room finished for the One Room Challenge, I take a look back at what I started with. It’s a good reminder that even though I didn’t finish, I have made good progress in this blessed tiny space.
This is the current state of my Powder Room. Greg is working his way around the room with the box moulding. He’s wanting to get this done this weekend. Here’s hoping!
The sink is back on the wall and the pretty faucet is installed. Thank you, Jesus!
Here’s my to do list for the Powder Room:
One more coat of paint on baseboards, crown, chair rail
Put up moulding underneath the chair rail
Paint moulding and wall underneath chair rail
Install towel bar and toilet paper holder
Paint door black
Install new door hardware
Buy gold hinges and install
Shop for rug
Paint mirror and hang
Paint decorative caddy
Hang artwork
Thank Jesus when it is finally finished!
Okay, now onto the Master Bedroom. Here’s what she looked like with the previous owner’s furniture.
Below is the room when we moved in. As you can see, the paint color is quite different than the previous pictures. It really was a very bold mustard color.
Here it is with Sherwin Williams Gray Screen 7071.
We also had Plantation Shutters installed in here as well as the Powder Room and the Laundry Room. It makes such a huge difference. The entire downstairs now has shutters.
See the little hand holding the door on the buffet cabinet? I wanted to show off this piece, but the door needs some work and I haven’t had time to address that little issue. Eventually, I would like to paint the buffet and put it in the entryway.
There’s my silly girl.
The Master Bathroom is behind the double doors. And, yes, it needs to be painted as well. We will eventually be replacing the bedding. But, for now, it does the job.
Here’s a closeup of the pretty details on this furniture. I am saving up my blog money to purchase new furniture for the Master Bedroom. I would like to move this set upstairs to one of the spare bedrooms.
In the meantime, the room is fine the way she is. Once Greg finishes his portion of the Powder Room, I’ll get in there and finish out the painting and then we can get it fluffed and styled.
In the meantime, I’ve started painting the Game Room upstairs and have been rearranging furniture. After the Game Room is painted and the Powder Room finished, I’ve promised Chloe that her room is next on the project list. She wants a completely different design. So, goodbye pink and yellow and welcome to a galaxy themed room.

I always organize my house for the maximum room too. I try to make my place feng shui friendly. I like the idea of increasing awareness of my surroundings and their energy. Also, I loved your vintage furniture in your powder room. Especially the tv unit looks great!

I love that pretty blue/gray color! I too want to paint our doors black (as in all of them!) but I’m told it is quite a job and will take a million coats to cover all the white.
