Hello World! Welcome Friends! Condensation involves turning cold air into water. The opposite of it is vaporization and mainly happens during winter and summer respectively. The aftermath of condensation includes rusting and other forms of corrosion such as rotting. When condensation occurs on a soft metallic part of the blinds, then rusting will occur.
As for wooden material and woven grass, rotting may take place. The other effects that condensation may have on the blinds include peeling the paint, growing modes and window dysfunction, primarily when the water extends to moveable parts. It does not matter if you are using modern or sophisticated blinds, even well-designed motorized blinds. They are all exposed to the weather changes and the rest of climatic conditions throughout the year.
However, there are a number of measures that you can roll into practice with the hope of ensuring that condensation neither affects your blinds nor your windows. Among the measures include the following:
Incorporate Insulating Barriers
The first step when you have a single pane barrier is to have an additional barrier in place to act as an insulator. Insulators are poor conductors of heat and do not allow the loss of heat energy which is necessary for condensation.
So, how do you ensure that you have additional barriers? It is in the best interest to have a plastic wrap or a modified insulation kit. What these insulators do is trap air particles in-between space and form airbags. Airbags are the purest form of insulation that is not only reliable but also efficient.
Have all the Leaks Fixed
It will be of no use when you take on all the other measures, but leave behind the leakages. Leakages can be a dangerous source of rusting and rotting as they let in pure water instead of moist air. You need to check on the leakages that appear both on the roof and the ceiling boards. You also need to check on the small air spaces along the window hinges that may likely let in rainwater. The other form of leaks can emanate from within the blinds. You should look for a breeze feeling and have the place sealed.
Reduce Humidity in the Atmosphere
The traditional way that most of us know when it comes to reducing humidity is the use of fans. However, it is to your best interest if you are keen on where you direct your fan, lest you do zero work.
The common areas that are prone to a moist atmosphere in your house are the bathroom and kitchen. Unfortunately, these are the areas that tend to have more blinds for privacy.
It is important that you have a functioning fan in each area so that you reduce the moisture in the air, and protect the other blinds in the whole house too. If the fan works well, it will prevent the overall spread of moist air in the house.
Have Distance between Blinds and Glass
When installing blinds, it is important that you reduce the contact distance as much as possible from the glass area.
You also have the option of installing blinds that are already insulated. When mounting the blinds on the outside, you should space blocks or mounting brackets to ensure a safe distance between the two surfaces.
As for the inside mounting, depth is key, and you should ensure that it is enough from the beginning until you do the whole installation.
Have Water-Resistant Window Cover
You may control all the other situations that increase the likelihood of having moist air around the windows but may not have complete control over the weather. For instance, at times during winter, it gets freezing, and the insulating barriers may not suffice. Also, the barrier may protect selected parts of the blinds and leave the rest of the window to the open air.
In this instance, it is useful when you have a water-resistant window cover that will prevent condensed water from landing anywhere near the window. Water-resistant window covers can be used during winter and taken out in summer as they can be really uncomfortable as they are non-porous.
Reduce Vegetation near Windows
Wintertime is not the time to entertain bushy vegetation around your house, and especially around the windows. This is also the perfect time for shifting pot plants away from the windows to other parts of the house or compound.
Condensation happens so quickly when it comes to plants, especially during the night. When the plant respires at a higher rate, it condenses much water which can easily get onto the window panes and finally on the blinds. The first thing to do is to make sure that you don’t install shades in areas close to plants.
Getting rid of moisture that can ruin your blinds goes a long way in saving not only money but also time looking for blind replacements. The durability of pane treatments depends on how much we value them and the effort we put into making them look better day by day.
