Hello World! Welcome Friends! Happy New Year! I don’t know about you, but I’m glad to see 2022 in my rearview mirror! I’m ready for a new year and a fresh perspective!
With January 1st, there are a myriad of posts and emails that are focusing on decluttering and organizing. So, not to be left out of the crowd, today I’m sharing our Primary Closet Refresh & Organization.
Our closet is not huge, but it’s not small either. Let me share a before picture that I snapped on my phone after I took down all of the rods and hardware. I seem to always forget to take true before pictures. I guess I’m itching to get started on the project.
This is just one side of the closet. For those that are new to the blog, I am working on eradicating the baby diarrhea color from all trim, shelves and interior doors in our home. We saw this home during an open house that had a lot of traffic. It sat on the market for quite a while. So, the owner’s kept lowering the price to see if anyone would bite. The whispers I heard from the open house was that the paint was disgusting. Well, that was music to my ears. I get it, painting every door, shelf, wall and ceiling of an almost 4000 square foot home can be costly and time consuming. Good thing I like to paint! The bonus is that we purchased this house for $50,000 below their original asking price!
There are double doors that lead to our bathroom; one of which you see here. This is my side of the closet. Since I work from home, I thought it was time to do a massive purge of everything: clothes, shoes and purses! I got rid of a ton of clothes and as you can see, I still have plenty! We both have dressers in our bedroom that house loungewear, undergarments, workout clothes, socks and jewelry. That’s another project for another day!
The organization is pretty self-explanatory in the pictures. The boxes on the top shelf are filled with our bed linens. The boxes are from Amazon. I first used them in the laundry room refresh and realized they would be perfect for our linens. I’ll link them at the bottom of the post if you are interested.
There is still plenty of floor space if I need to tuck some items away that I don’t use on a daily basis. You can see a little bin that is tucked back in the corner. It holds some items that once belonged to my Dad. He passed away when I was 4, and my Mother saved a few things of his that she thought I might like to have.
If you look closely, you can see clear dividers that have a little valet hook at the front and bottom of the divider. I hung one of my evening purses on one towards the top so you can see it in “action”.
Wrapping around, I have my dresses and long robes and some shawls and wraps that are hanging next to the shoe section. I used both large and small containers to store my shoes. My house slippers fit perfectly in the little spaces in between. The containers were purchased from The Container Store. I’ll link them below at the end for you.
The door you see next to my boots leads into the laundry room. I never thought I would love having the laundry room steps from my closet! But, I do! It is so easy to do our laundry. No lugging our clothes across the house or down in a basement. Been there, done that!
Here’s the door going to the laundry room. The mirror was originally on the door, so when I took it off to paint the door, I went ahead and gave the mirror frame a dusting of gold spray paint. The doors to the bathroom and laundry room are basically across from one another.
On this side, is my husband’s shoe storage along with ties, belts, hats in the boxes on the floor and storage for items we can grab for the bathroom when we run low. The clear bins were all purchased from Amazon and I believe the white ones came from Target a long time ago.
These clear bins were purchased off of Amazon to be used for organization in the refrigerator. I opted to use them for my husband’s ties and belts. The three narrow containers house my scarfs. These containers are so handy. Not only can you see what they contain, but they are drawers. So, you just pull out the drawer and grab what you need.
I used dust protectors on his suit jackets and sports coats. I have a couple of these on my side as well. We also purchased new velvet hangers as well as new wood hangers for Mr. Griffin’s jackets and trousers.
All of the hardware on the doors has been replaced with gold hardware and the little gold hooks are from Amazon. I used them in our daughter’s closet refresh and since they have worked so well for her, I thought we could benefit from them as well. Below is a better picture of the hooks from our daughter’s closet makeover. Also, these are the hangers we have in our closet.
I’m very happy to have this project checked off my list. I’m currently working on a Dining Room refresh. Hopefully, I will have that finished to share with you next week.

Beautiful closets! I love the matching linen colored boxes at the top of the closet; it makes it look very high end and I love that you can conceal some of the more unsightly items.

Wowza! This looks great. Us Brits are usually pretty jealous of your beautiful closets, even if you say they are on the small side, as they are a rarity here. I love how organised and smart this space looks, it must be a please to use.

Thank you, Julie! I’ve seen the lack of closet space you lovelies on the other side of the pond have to deal with on a trip years ago to London and then Scotland. Truth be told, I’ve learned more organizing tips from Brits than Americans, because you have had to be creative in creating functional storage spaces. Thank you for popping by! Have a great week!

I am seriously jealous of your closet – for a start I wish mine was that big! Being short on actual storage space makes it even harder to keep organised. I need to take some time this year to really go through everything. You have inspired me, thank you! Visiting from ScribblingBoomer linky x Sim x

Hi Kathryn- I always struggle with closet organization. My fiancee and I share a walk in closet and there never seems to be enough room. I love how you store your shoes in clear plastic containers! Genius! Thanks for the inspiration and ideas. Thank you also for sharing this post on the Home Imagined Link Party.

Thank you, Anna! I didn’t know if my husband was going to like the shoe containers. But, he told me the other day that it saves a step in the morning since he doesn’t have to dust off his shoes. They are really perfect! Have a great weekend!
