Hello World! Welcome Friends! Pressure washing can be an amazing way to get the exterior of the home clean, but it can be dangerous to use as well. The high pressure used can cause significant damage to many different types of items, so it needs to be used with care. Some of the things to never pressure wash include the following.
1. Wood Siding
Wood siding can be easily damaged by too much pressure. The water can remove the stain, remove any paint, or damage the wood itself. If wood siding needs to be cleaned, talk to the pressure cleaning company about alternatives that can be used to get it clean without risking damage.
2. Windows
It’s easy to underestimate how much pressure the water has and try to wash the windows. Unfortunately, this can lead to broken windows and water damage inside the home.
3. Stained or Painted Wood
Any wood that is stained or painted, not just siding, should be cleaned carefully. It’s not a good idea to pressure wash painted or stained wood, as the paint or stain can be removed from the wood surface.
4. Vehicles
The paint on vehicles is susceptible to damage when pressure washers are used. Though there are pressure washers that claim to have low enough pressure for washing a vehicle, it’s best to learn how to properly detail the exterior instead of pressure washing it.
5. Old Brick and Mortar
While bricks can usually be pressure washed, older bricks and mortar shouldn’t be cleaned this way. Due to their age, they are more susceptible to damage from the high pressure of the water.
6. Air Conditioner
Air conditioners can be significantly damaged by high-pressure water. The fins around the air conditioner can be bent or broken, which means the air conditioner can no longer function properly and the fins will need to be replaced.
7. Bicycles
Bicycles may be designed for durability, but this doesn’t include pressure washing. The amount of pressure behind the water can easily damage the paint on the bicycle as well as more delicate components. It can also wash away grease that is necessary for the gears to function properly.
8. Anything Fabric
Pressure washing will destroy anything that’s made from fabric, as it just won’t hold up to the pressure used. Avoid pressure washing fabric lounge chairs, flags in the yard, rugs, and any other fabric items around the house.
9. Anything Electrical
High pressure can force water into places it may not normally go, so it’s best to avoid washing anything electrical, even if it’s protected from the elements. This includes the electrical meter and other electrical boxes on the exterior of the home.
10. Light Fixtures
Pressure washing light fixtures can cause the finish to come off, can break the bulbs, and can cause water to get to the electrical components. Instead of pressure washing exterior light fixtures, learn how to clean them properly.
There are a lot of things that can be pressure washed outside of a home, including driveways, walkways, certain types of siding, and more. However, not everything can be pressure washed, as the high pressure can cause significant damage. Instead of risking damage to the home or things around it, contact a professional and have the job done right. They know what can and can’t be cleaned with a pressure washer, minimizing the risk that anything will be damaged.
