Hello World! Welcome Friends! The day has finally come! The Powder Room is finished! I for one am so glad to have this project behind me and so is the rest of the family. For such a tiny space, it sure did give me quite a lot of difficulties. From discovering that not one wall was anywhere near plumb to faucet issues, and to Hurricane Harvey happening, this room has proven to be quite the challenge. Many times I wanted to just paint it, close the door and forget about it. But, the “finish what you start” side took over; and I’m glad I listened! So, welcome to our pretty Powder Room.
Powder Room Reveal
Let’s take a look at what we were working with.
This is what greets you as you enter the space. Before we dive completely in, I need to give a huge Thank You to Cutting Edge Stencils! They were super patient and understanding when basically everything fell apart on this makeover.
Let’s start with this gorgeous stencil from Cutting Edge Stencils. It is the Secret Garden Toile Stencil. You know me, I couldn’t do just one color.
Lighting
It was a dark and gloomy day when I took photos, so the lights had to be on. The triple sconce is from Pottery Barn.
It is just as gorgeous in person.
Accessories
I had a couple of hand towels made to add that special touch. All of the hardware, mirror and most of the accessories are brand new.
The mirror was a recent find from Wayfair. I had originally purchased another mirror, but it proved to be a little overbearing in the space. However, she will work perfectly in the Dining Room Makeover.
Molding
Another huge thank you goes out to Greg who added the crown molding, chair rail and molding beneath the chair rail. Since there is no storage in the space, I added this basket to store extra toilet paper. I’ve had this basket for a good 8 years and if I’m correct I believe I purchased it at Target.
This little container got a fresh coat of green paint and is used to corral the tissue holder, lotion holder and air freshener.
The two prints I received from my Great Aunt Carrie who is no longer with us. She worked at the Pentagon back in the late 1950’s and early 1960’s and did quite a bit of travel to Japan. These two prints and frames were part of some of the treasures she brought back. I had to do a little frame repair on one of them in order to get it hung. See, I don’t paint everything! LOL . I like the natural look of the frames mixed in with the basket and with the shelving unit in the next picture.
The shelving unit is perfect for extra hand towels, candle and a little bowl to hold matches.
I did give the black metal strip a dusting of metallic spray paint.
I love the gold faucet!
The tissue holder and trash can are a matched set that I just recently found.
I love how the wood accents tie in with my pretty wall gate.

Wow lovely colors and design. We are renovating our bathroom. Wonder if you can recommend what wall color goes with gray tiles and white cabinets ? Thanks for sharing.
thededicatedhouse@gmail.com says
Thank you so much, Rita! We are very pleased with how it turned out! For your question, maybe a very pale gray or white with a grayish tint in the mix.
Rita says
Thanks. We are going with a color called bunny gray.

Wow, it looks great. You must be thrilled to have this room finished, it’s been quite a journey for a little room!
I love how you’ve used your Great Aunts pictures, they tie in so nicely and it’s always special to use treasured family things like this in a new space.
I love how you call this room a powder room, that phrase has always tickled my fancy (does that expression translate?) here in the UK we’d call it a ‘downstairs loo’ I think, I assuming this room is downstairs?
thededicatedhouse@gmail.com says
Thank you so much, Julie! Yes, it has been quite the journey on this little room. We are so pleased with how it turned out and of course, glad it’s finished. I’m not sure where the term Powder Room came into play here in the states. Probably since you can’t bathe in the room, the term bathroom was dropped and Powder was introduced. A place to go do your business and powder your nose! LOL Hope you’re having a great start to the Holiday Season!!
