Hello World! Tonight’s post is all about comfort.
For virtually everything interesting or useful in our lives, it seems there is something that gets the glory, and something else behind the scenes keeping it all together. Whether it’s the trainer keeping on top of the star athlete’s nagging injuries, or the person working the sound board at your favorite band’s concert, there’s the glory, and there’s the glue.
This principle can even be applied to something as common and unremarkable as seating cushions. The next time you enjoy how comfortable a couch is, and how full and fluffy the cushions look, it only makes sense that you give credit to the foam underneath the cover. And there’s nothing wrong with that, since the foam is responsible for a majority of that comfort and support you’re experiencing. But often, there is something else you can’t see, giving those cushions that last little bit of softness and fullness that makes you take notice. That something is polyester fiberfill.
A loosely spun fabric, poly fiberfill is applied to many cushions to add comfort and softness that doesn’t impact support. While a soft foam can cave in, adding fiberfill to a firm foam creates a soft, comfy cushion that is going to hold up to use and give you the support you need.
Being a compressible material, fiberfill also plays a role in a cushion’s appearance. When applied to a cushion, it is still able to be squeezed into covers without stressing the seams too much. This gives a fluffy, full look when not in use, preventing a sagging, wrinkled appearance. Simply put, fiberfill is the little touch to your cushion you don’t notice, but results in all the things that stand out and make you take notice.
