Hello World! Welcome Friends! You may have a great plumber that you rely on when things go wrong. Perhaps he or she is the same one you used when building your house. That is naturally who you think of when planning any work requiring a licensed plumber. However, just because a plumbing contractor is good with maintenance and repairs or new construction, it doesn’t necessarily mean they are the right fit for a remodel. With a simple repair, the scope of work is fairly limited and with new construction, there are a few obstacles or constraints to limit the professionals in their work.
How do you find a qualified, experienced plumbing company for your remodel? There are a few secrets to help you find the perfect fit.
Ask Your Friends
Referrals are the best way to see how satisfied the company left its customers. Talk to friends and acquaintances that have undertaken a home renovation project. Ask some questions about how easy they were to work with, did they feel like the contractor listened to questions or concerns and did he or she explain their process. If you don’t know anyone who has had a remodeling project in your area, ask coworkers if they know anyone or check out the Better Business Bureau site for contractor ratings.
Check Licenses and Credentials
A reputable plumbing company always keeps its license number, credentials and any professional affiliations visible. You may see both on their website, their business cards or their forms. Before deciding on your choice, be sure and check that the licenses are legitimate and up to date. Are they affiliated with any state or national plumbing associations? Finally, are they listed with the Better Business Bureau? If so, check their rating and look for any complaints. Ask for proof of insurance, as well.
Set up a Meeting
It is in your best interest to make sure all your questions are answered before you hire a contractor. You will want to go over what their plan is to complete your project including estimates and timelines. You’ll also want to find out how often you’ll be updated on progress, what the payment schedule is, and whether or not they will handle construction permits. A very critical question for remodels is, “How will you ensure that my property is protected during the project?”
Check References
Once you feel you have narrowed down your choices to the top candidates, check references. A reputable professional will be happy for you to talk to their customers. You’ll want to verify anything the contractor told you about past jobs and ask your own questions.
