Hello World! Welcome Friends! England is a country that has contributed a lot to the modern world, from the radio to powered flight. As you might expect from a nation with as many contributions to the world as England, there is a lot there for travelers to see. Similarly, there are also many places worth visiting in England’s neighboring countries of Wales and Scotland.
If you are planning on taking your family away for a vacation, then England is worth considering. This post will tell you why that is.
History
Not many countries have history quite as interesting as England’s. The nation’s history ‘begins’ with its settlement by the Romans. The history of England prior to the arrival of the Romans is not clear. All over England, you can find ancient stone monuments erected by the ancient Britons, many of which are believed to have been used in ancient rituals and magical practices. One such monument, Stonehenge, is a popular attraction for international tourists and visitors. According to the people behind StonehengeTickets, it is one of the must-visit attractions in England. Another stone circle that’s also worth visiting is the Avebury Circle, which is equally as mysterious. In more modern history, England was home to Anglo-Saxon and Norman kings, who ruled the country from their stately homes and castles, many of which still stand today.
There are many intriguing ancient and medieval sites worth visiting in England, making it a great place to travel if you enjoy history.
Scenery
Something that a lot of people don’t know about England is that it has some of Europe’s best natural scenery. Much of England is hilly, wooded, and green. If you are planning on visiting, then instead of staying in an urban area, why not get a room in a bed-and-breakfast and visit some of the nation’s more rural places? There are lots of national parks and heritage sites you can visit. You should be aware however since it is now autumn, it will be very rainy until summer rolls around again.
Weather
Despite the rain, England’s weather is still quite pleasant. Even when it does rain, it tends not to rain all day. England’s weather is very temperate, which means that no matter when you visit, it won’t be too hot or too cold for you to go out exploring. This means, essentially, that you can visit and enjoy England at any time of the year. Autumn is arguably the best time to visit if you want to explore the nation’s forests and woodlands since the trees and landscapes are most beautiful then. The last few summers have been unusually hot though, so if you have heat sensitivities and intend on traveling during summer, check the weather forecast before booking your flights.
Urban Adventures
Most people visit England for London. London has been the nation’s capital since England was a Roman colony. There is a lot to do there. If you are not just interested in history (which London is rich in) and instead want luxury, then London is the place to go. Manchester, Birmingham, Liverpool, and Winchester are all other great cities to visit. If you plan on visiting and staying in an English city, then it is a good idea to book your accommodation in advance. Booking in advance can save you a lot of money.
Cultural Pursuits
If you want an educational holiday then in addition to visiting England’s many historical sites, you could also consider going to a museum or art gallery. There are lots to choose from. Arguably the best museum in the entire country is the British Museum, located in London. The Fitzwilliam in Cambridge is a close second. In terms of galleries, there are many for you to choose from, but the Tate Gallery is considered one of the best. There are also many smaller galleries that you can visit, too. The great thing about England’s museums and galleries is that most of them are completely free to enter.
United Kingdom
England as a country hasn’t existed as an independent nation since 1707 when the Act of Union was signed. The other nations that make up the United Kingdom have contributed just as much to world history as England (and have just as many interesting sites, cities, and destinations for you to visit). If you want to explore everything the United Kingdom has to offer, then be sure to visit Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland. It is possible to take a day trip to Wales from England. Scotland and Northern Ireland are a little trickier to get to, however.
England has it all. If you are looking for somewhere to take your family on vacation, then it is somewhere that’s definitely worth considering. Make sure to meticulously plan your trip before leaving, so you can map out everything that you want to see and everywhere that you want to go.
