Hello World! Welcome Friends! This is a post for all of my friends and readers who happen to be condo dwellers. I myself was a condo dweller when I lived in California; and I loved it!
Most people who are buying a brand new condo in Montreal prefer not to host big parties in their new abode due to the limited space. Besides, Montreal has too many great places for evening celebrations that you can choose from.
But if you really want to hold a party at your place here are some tips to keep in mind:
- Limit the number of guests you’ll invite. This should be obvious, but you’d be surprised by how many hosts disregard this very important rule. A party held in a condo unit is often quite intimate. Having 6 guests for dinner is fine but 20? Probably not a good idea. In general, you invite the number of people you can sit comfortably at the dinner table or in the living room.
- Send your invitations early. People are very busy, so they need advance warning. This is especially true for holiday seasons where there seems to be a party for everyone every night. Make sure your invitations indicate where they can park.
- Give your doorman and neighbors advance notice. Maybe you can tell them a week or so ahead, so they too can prepare for it. Montreal residents normally don’t mind people partying—it’s the party capital of Canada after all—but they will appreciate the heads up.
- Get your breakables out of the way. It puts a damper on things when a guest breaks something in your condo. At the same time, you can hardly enjoy yourself when you spend an evening worrying about your glass vases and asking your guests to be careful all the time.
- Serve alcoholic beverages as well as “mocktails.” This is Montreal, so people drink. So always be ready with your drinks. At the same time, some may not be drinking because either they choose not to or they’re the designated driver. Make sure to have drinks for everyone.
- Have a plan B for the food. You really don’t want to end up with hungry guests. But accidents happen all the time, so be prepared. If you’re cooking, start early and make sure you have everything you need so you don’t have to run out at the last minute. Have some restaurant phone numbers ready so you can have food delivered just in case.
- Buy lots and lots of disposable stuff. That means disposable plates, cups, and utensils. You may not have enough china for everyone. Buy more of these disposables than you need so you don’t run out. You can always use the stuff you don’t use for your next party.
- Use minimal décor. Perhaps you can pick a single theme or color for your decorations. In a small space, having too many decorations and too many colors can make the space seem cluttered.
