Hello World! Welcome Friends! Cleaning your home doesn’t really sound like fun, now does it? That’s why people tend to do the bare minimum and call it a day, moving on to new and more interesting things.
However, this might not be the best approach to cleaning. Cleaning is not all about appearances. A clean home is a healthy home. By keeping your home clean, you’re actually keeping it suitable for habitation for you, while denying the same to bacteria, fungi, molds, and other nasty things that you’d prefer not to have in your home.
That’s why we reached out to cleaning experts at Dust and Mop to tell us more about the areas of the house that people tend to ignore while cleaning.
It’s the Little Things
Even if you clean your home somewhat meticulously, there are those small things that people forget about. For instance, when was the last time you cleaned your light switches? We touch our light switches dozens if not hundreds of times a day, and who can say that our hands were clean every time.
The same thing applies to doorknobs. They’re the first things we touch when we come into the house – the doorknob followed by a light switch. This makes them ideal breeding grounds for all kinds of pathogens.
Even though the Covid pandemic may have changed our behavior in this regard somewhat, most people still should clean their light switches and doorknobs at least once a week. All you really need is a tissue and some rubbing alcohol.
The Bathmat
Having a bathmat in your bathroom is really convenient and may even prevent a nasty fall while you were getting out of a tub once or twice. Plus, stepping out of a shower onto the cold tiles sounds awful, I’d much prefer a bathmat.
However, if your bathmat is good at what it does, it will absorb a lot of water over a day. If there’s not enough time for the bathmat to dry before you use it again, or if your bathroom doesn’t have good ventilation, your bathmat may become ideal for mold growth.
What you can do to stop that is to properly ventilate your bathroom, but an even better solution would be to have two bathmats and just swap them out and wash regularly.
Your Electronics
Your personal electronic devices, mostly phones and computers are with you throughout the day, so you may be touching them and using them when your hands aren’t exactly clean without thinking. To combat that, you should consider cleaning your devices every so often.
When it comes to your phone, simply wiping it down with a wet wipe or a tissue doused in rubbing alcohol should be enough. Your computer, on the other hand gets a bit less use overall, but we still do use them quite a lot. And when you combine that with the tendency to eat and drink at our computers, they can get dirty quickly without us realizing it.
Your Kitchen Appliances
When it comes to regular kitchen cleaning, chances are that you focus on the stove, maybe the fridge and the countertops. That covers the largest part of your kitchen and the most frequently used. However, it is not all of your kitchen.
There are plenty of other appliances that you should consider. When was the last time you washed your oven? Or the microwave? Have you moved your appliances to clean under them in the past few months?
Those are the places where food residue can easily hide, and crumbs and stains are the perfect breeding ground for bacteria – in a room where you prepare and likely eat your food. Consider doing this at least once a month, and your kitchen will be much cleaner, even though it will require a bit of extra effort from you.
