Hello World! Welcome Friends! When a great designer produces a stunning interior, our collective jaws drop. But when you bring two or more leading figures from the industry together, the results can be out of this world.
If you love designer collaborations as much as we do, this post is for you. Here, we look at some of the most extraordinary joint projects from recent years to show you what’s possible when you have a surfeit of talent in the room.
Who says that great minds don’t think alike?
John Smedley x Matthew Foster
If you’re the sort of person who loves homely ceramics, then you’ll want to find out more about the recent collaboration between John Smedley and Matthew Foster. The pair worked together to create some unique hand-crafted wares perfect for perching on kitchen cabinets and shelves, taking local clay and combining it with traditional pottery techniques to create a set that will look perfect in any rustic kitchen or dining room. Viewing them in person, you can see the love that’s gone into each piece, and every design is unique.
Pierre Charpin x Hermès
World-famous Hermès recently teamed up with French designer Pierre Charpin to produce a series of rugs (following a previous partnership where they designed scarfs). The designs resume their signature bold colours and bright shapes, giving homeowners a fundamentally new way to adorn their homes.
Their centrepiece Cordélie Arçon’ rug, is the perfect living room accessory for anyone wanting to make a statement. It has a neutral beige background interspersed with bright blues, reds, and golds.
Luxdeco x Laura Hammett
Luxdeco and Laura Hammett also paired up in the last few years to create a new home accessory collection. Laura is a world-renowned interior designer who wants to work with luxury brands to encourage more people to choose elegant items for their rooms.
Each piece in the collection focuses on refined textures, neutral aesthetics, and the development of a studio feel. Rooms immediately feel warm and welcoming thanks to the warm bronze and brass colour scheme.
Francis Sultana x Bonacina
London-based interior designer Francis Sultana’s collaboration with Italian furniture designer Bonacina is, in his words, a tribute to the skilled craftspeople he’s been working with on interior projects over the last twenty years. The result is a 10-piece rattan furniture set that screams originality and elegance.
Interestingly, Sultana isn’t the only designer Bonacina has brought in-house in recent years. The company previously formed partnerships with Gio Ponti and Franco Albini, which is probably why it has had such an illustrious and successful history.
Aga x Taylor Howes
Famous range cooker brand Aga worked with interior designer Taylor Howes to create a colourway, the first in the company’s 100-year history. The new hob combines an attractive blue finish with copper hob plates – a one-of-a-kind.
Aga said it wanted to use Taylor’s skills to create a range cooker suitable for town and country. The new-look range is a showstopper, even in neutral modern kitchens.
Herzog & de Meuron x Molteni&C
Jacques Herzog and Pierre de Meuron established their Swiss architectural firm in 1978 and have enjoyed tremendous success since then, designing the revamped Tate Modern in London and Beijing’s Bird Nest Stadium, built for the 2008 Olympic Games.
Now, the pair are turning their attention to smaller-scale interior design, working with Molteni&C on a new chair. Called the Porta Volta, the seat is meant for Jerusalem’s National Library of Israel, providing a fashionable and comfortable place for keen readers to park their bottoms. The seat is available in various finishes, including fabric and leather.
Zeena Shah x The Tartan Blanket Company
Zeena Shah is well known for her fashionable wall art and interior style. She recently teamed up with The Tartan Blanket Company, a family-run business with a unique take on the traditional Scottish tartan blanket. The pair worked together to create various blankets and scarves made using Shah’s signature bright colour checks.
Ensemblier x Pandora Taylor
Sustainable interior company Ensemblier wanted to create an eco-friendly yet attractive interior accessory set. To achieve this, it partnered with Pandora Taylor, an interior designer based in London. Together, the pair developed the Hibernia collection, a colourful collection (including a headboard and lampshades) that works well with minimalist themes and neutral wall arts.
In summary, we’ve seen all sorts of exciting collaborations recently where designers lend their unique skills to top interior brands. Let’s hope we see many more of these efforts before the year is out!
