Hello World! Welcome Friends! When you’re planning out a room’s décor, don’t let your window treatments be an afterthought. Too often, people focus on everything but their windows when setting up a décor theme for their home. That’s just a bad idea. Window treatments can make a huge difference in any room’s look and feel.
Of course, you need to balance aesthetics with functionality and maintenance. Drapes can be a pain to clean and maintain and offer less versatility than other window treatments like blinds. More and more people are opting for blinds in their home due to their affordability, functionality and ease of operation.
Light Level
One important factor that will shape your choice of blind will be how much light you need to let in the room. If you prefer the room to be relatively dark or require more privacy (such as in a bedroom), look for roller blinds or Roman shades.
These are typically available in room darkening fabrics. They also don’t have holes or slats in the blinds that would let in light.
If you’re looking to let light in but not directly, sheer fabrics and Venetian blinds will work well. These are especially good for rooms that get a lot of direct sunlight.
Moisture Level
If you are choosing blinds for a room that has a lot of moisture or “splash zones” such as a kitchen or bathroom, your best bet is to avoid natural fabrics such as wood and linen.
Vinyl shades are ideal in this case. They are moisture resistant and easy to clean. If you need a natural look, you can always go with faux-wood shades, as they combine the look of wood with the easy maintenance of plastic materials.
Measurements for Blinds
The first thing you need to decide before you take measurements for your blinds is if they are going to go inside or outside the window recess. Inside mounts are ideal for a clean look, so find out if there is enough room inside the window. If not, you’ll have to go with an outside mount.
For inside mounts, take three measurements across the width of the window (top, middle, and bottom) and three vertically (left, middle, right). Use the smallest measurement in both to order the right size blinds. For outside mounts, simply take these measurements corresponding to the area you want the blind to cover – plus add about 3 inches either way.
Pro Tip: Always use a metal tape measure when taking measurements for blinds. Fabric ones can stretch or bend and give you inaccurate measurements.
Cleaning your Blinds
Generally speaking, cleaning blinds is easy. You just need to follow this basic routine: dust them with a vacuum brush attachment on low suction, then spot clean with a damp sponge or cloth. For stubborn stains you can use a mild dish soap mixed with lukewarm water. Remember, always dab, don’t rub!

I love blinds and use them and curtains. I am thinking of just using blinds in our Bathroom. We only have one window and it is a privacy one, but I am tired of curtains on it.
