Hello World! Welcome Friends! For all of my readers shaking their heads and saying, “What are you doing adding another project to your current project list?” What can I say? I like a challenge! The last time I joined a One Room Challenge was back in the Spring of 2018 with our Powder Bathroom Makeover at our previous home. Unfortunately, we didn’t finish on time, because both mine and Greg’s schedules exploded. But, we did eventually get it finished. This year, I’m taking on our daughter’s bedroom.
Before we dive headfirst into her project, let me introduce myself to those of you who may be visiting me for the first time today. I live in Cypress, Texas which is just outside Houston with my husband who is the Director of Technology at a large architectural firm in Houston. We have one daughter who is about to hit her teen years! My style is traditional with vibrant and rich colors with a nod towards Asian influences.
Another ORC I participated in was in the Spring of 2017 when I transformed our Breakfast Nook. I did manage to finish that one on time. That makeover earned me a little nickname of “Stencil Queen”, since the wall treatment in the picture below was my first attempt at using a stencil. In fact, the Powder Room Makeover also sported a fabulous stencil above the chair rail.
And, the very first ORC I participated in was our Daughter’s Bedroom Makeover at yet another house in the Fall of 2016. She was much younger and had a love for pink. The furniture used in that makeover was my bedroom furniture from when I was a young girl.
For those who are new, we moved into our current house a year ago and I have been working my way methodically transforming each room. The house has amazing bones and trim work, but hideous paint choices. Every single room, hall, closet, doors, shelves and even garage will be getting a new paint scheme. Below is a picture of our daughter’s room prior to moving in.
Look at that trim color! Eeek, it’s even more hideous in person! Every door, trim, moulding, window sill, and shelf is painted this baby diarrhea color. Let me tell you, the paint on the walls is much darker than in the photo above. The photographer had to brighten the photo up quite a bit, because the room is a tad dark. The room is not huge, but it is a nice size. Our daughter, Chloe actually prefers smaller rooms. The other bedroom upstairs is much larger, but she preferred this one because she said it felt cozier.
Chloe likes more transitional and modern decor more than traditional. She asked if we could basically recreate her old bedroom from our previous home with a few things added in and a couple of changes.
One of the additions will be to find a desk that will work with her existing furniture. Also, she wants different bedding. She still loves the stencil wall, but we have talked about seeing if there is something else she might like better. Or, Mama might want to do something completely different, with Chloe’s approval of course.
The first thing on the agenda is to start painting. This is going to be tricky though. We have no space upstairs to pull out all of her furniture and let me tackle all of the walls at once. And, since I’ve started painting in other areas of the house, these walls will take two coats of primer and two coats of paint color to get the right coverage. It looks like I will only be able to paint one wall at a time, which always takes longer. But, it is what it is.
Thanks for stopping by! Have a wonderful day/night depending on where you are in the world! Go with God and remember to be kind to one another!
Toodles,

Wow your rooms are so bright and full of color. This is my first time to your blog, but I love to follow along on your one room journey. I had a hard time choosing which room to feature. Can’t wait to see all of your progress.

I am so happy to start this ORC journey with you. I can’t wait to see the makeover of the room, just too excited about how are you going to pull everything off. I liked the stencil wall. It looks so vibrant, especially the bathroom wall. I am also curious to see the end result.
