Hello World! Welcome Friends! For the Fall 2017 One Room Challenge, I took on the task of painting my kitchen cabinets. This house when we bought it was dark, dark, dark. The very thing that was turning other buyers off, was the thing that enabled us to purchase this house for much less than it is worth. A good $20K less.
There were a few things that drew me to this house. First, the staircase which is really probably one of the prettiest I’ve seen in a non-custom home. Second, the wood floors which are dark and a little worn. Third on the list was the moulding that is throughout the downstairs of the house. It’s not your simple one piece of moulding, in some cases there are four strips of moulding stacked together. Glorious moulding! And, last was the kitchen. I knew that this kitchen could one day be so pretty and filled with light. Today, we are further along on the journey to infusing light into this dark space. With new countertops, backsplash, sink and new flooring we will get there. But, for now, it’s painted cabinets and new hardware.
New Kitchen Hardware
When I painted the kitchen cabinets, I also spray painted and sealed the existing hardware. The existing hardware wasn’t to my taste and I really could not find anything that I really liked at the time. So, instead of buying something I didn’t really like, I decided to spray paint what was already there.
About a couple of weeks ago, I was checking out the new kitchen at Remington Avenue and admiring all of the features. When I spied Mysha’s new hardware, I knew I had found the one. Perfect finish, sleek, with modern and traditional combined. Enter hardware from Amerock.
Don’t mind the misaligned knobs in the picture above. The knobs are lined up, but I need to tighten the hinge on the right cabinet door to bring the doors level. The under the sink cabinet is used multiple times daily and this hinge for some reason loosens up over time. We’ll just call it quirky.
This is my cookbook cabinet. It was hard to get a photo here since the space is super tight. The cabinet sits just across from the refrigerator and to the right of the sink.
I turned the can lights on overhead for the next two shots so you can see how the light bounces off of the hardware.
I’m actually contemplating painting the flooring and backsplash. I have plans on down the road to look into this project, but first I have to get the Powder Room finished and Chloe’s room is slated for a new design starting next week.
The work space in this kitchen is great, we only run into a lack of space issue by the refrigerator. When someone has the refrigerator doors open, there is no space to get by. You either wait or walk around.
Before we go, I wanted to show you what our breakfast nook looks like on a daily basis. I try to keep it simple and non-cluttered so that the stencil can be the star of the show.
This is by far our favorite room in the house wth the kitchen coming in a close second.
I love our new choice of hardware so much that you will see it in the laundry room and in the bathrooms. That is, once I start on those makeovers!

Well done. I have painted kitchen cabinets before and I remember that it is a lot of work but I agree, the payoff is tremendous. This looks so pretty and I am embracing the brushed gold hardware too and will be bringing it into our little house up north. Have a great weekend.

I love the new hardware you picked out! It’s crazy how something as simple as switching out the hardware can make SUCH a big difference to the look of a kitchen! We recently switched out all of ours from old, dingy silver ones to new, sleek black handles and I can’t believe what a difference it makes!

It looks like you did a grand job (any before photos?) You’ve inspired me to do something in my own kitchen now (I guess we should finish the bathroom first)! and I’m wondering if the kitchen would be lighter if I had white cupboards?! Thanks for sharing over at Fiesta Friday (I couldn’t find us on your “where I party” page?)
