Hello World! Welcome Friends! I have been posting on my Instagram stories little snippets of our backyard and my sweet followers kept messaging me to show the interior of our new house. I was going to post the room transformations from the last house, but since you guys were itching to see the new house, I decided to post the new house first.
A little bit about the house. It is a Darling Builder home built in 2011. The home has 3723 sq. ft., and sits on a 7620 sq. ft. lot. It has 4 bedrooms with 2 bedrooms downstairs and 2 bedrooms upstairs. There are 3 1/2 bathrooms and an oversized garage. The storage in this house is amazing!! And, the best part is that the house backs up to water and it is so, so pretty!
Welcome to our New Home
The pictures do not do justice to the front landscaping. It really is quite gorgeous. I plan on doing a front yard tour soon. I’m waiting on a couple of things to bloom before I show it off to you.
We are on a lovely cul-de-sac with the friendliest neighbors. We met most of them on the day we moved in and couldn’t be more pleased. The street is quiet as is the neighborhood which is a blessing, considering our other house seemed to be situated on a raceway. The only sound we have at the new house is that of children playing at the park that is at the end of the cul-de-sac and the ducks. Sweet, serene quietness.
The front door is massive and gorgeous! Before we go in, let me warn you, the finishes are very taste specific, but the bones are amazing! Since this will be our home for the next 7+ years, I will have plenty of projects to keep me busy.
Entry Hall
The entry hall is full of arches that leads your eye to the back of the house to the view of the water beyond. Projects for the entry hall are paint walls (still debating colors), paint trim to white, paint closet door, and add new light fixtures. The study is to the left with the stained doors.
Study
The stain is quite lovely in the study and will be staying. However, the tile floors even though they are an upgrade, they have too much red in them for my taste. We would eventually like to replace all the tile in the house with wood floors to match the entry hall and family room. The only other changes in this room will be to paint the walls, remove the blinds, install curtains and add a new light fixture.
Dining Room
Next to the study is the dining room. The projects are to paint the walls, paint the trim white, replace the tile floor, take the blinds down, and install a pretty chandelier. In fact, I want to do away with all blinds in the house and get motorized shades. Since being in the house for a little more than a week, we have been pulling the blinds completely up in all of the rooms to take advantage of the view and to let in more light.
The crown molding in this house is amazing!
The stairway is just beyond through the arches. I thought I would miss having a grand staircase, but to be honest, this staircase is grand. When you come down the stairs, your eye immediately goes to the water view. The view is the star of the show.
Kitchen
The kitchen looks small, but do not be fooled it is not! This one has amazing storage and little hidden features. I will share those when I give you a detailed tour of the kitchen. The projects for the kitchen are to paint the walls, paint the trim white, paint the cabinets white, paint the doors black, replace the tile floor, install new hardware, replace the island lights and then eventually replace the granite and backsplash. The existing granite is absolutely stunning! If I can make it work with white cabinets and replacing the floors, I might just keep the granite. In fact, the original owners of the house did not skimp on cost at all. All of the bathrooms have gorgeous granite countertops that I might have a hard time replacing. Straight ahead through the arch is the laundry room. The pantry is to the left of the laundry room, but you cannot see it in this picture.
The arch in this picture leads to the Master Bedroom.
The gas cooktop looks small from this angle, but it isn’t. We are still not sure about the backsplash. We’ll see how everything looks against white cabinetry.
Looking back into the Family Room. The fireplace is massive and gorgeous. Greg has already taken down the two sconces that flanked the red armoire since our entertainment center needed to go on this wall. After taking the sconces down, he capped the electrical wires and then put electrical plates to cover the holes. Our entertainment covers the plates, so they aren’t distracting. The projects for the Family Room are paint the walls, paint the trim white, take down the blinds and replace with motorized shades. We aren’t sure if we will keep the fan or not. We haven’t used it a lot since moving in, but then again Summer isn’t here yet.
Breakfast Room
Finally a Breakfast Room large enough for our furniture and all of the chairs! The projects for this space are paint the walls, paint the trim white, replace the floor, take down the blinds and replace with motorized shades, new chandelier (I brought the other chandelier from the old house), and paint the door.
Family Room
And yes, that is an electrical plug in the floor!
The Juliet Balcony above is in the Game Room.
Master Bedroom
The Master Bedroom is a good size and has a lovely view of the water. The projects for this room are to paint the walls, paint the trim white, take down the blinds and replace with motorized shades, and replace the carpet with wood floors.
The sconces are very taste specific, but I already have an idea of what I will replace them with.
Oh, and paint the doors.
Master Bathroom
The Master Bathroom has quality finishes though they are very taste specific. The mirrors are huge and beautiful. They just need some love. The projects for this room are paint the walls, paint the trim white, paint the cabinets white, new hardware, paint the mirrors, replace the globes on the light fixture (they are very yellow, but you can’t tell in this picture), spruce up the light fixture with paint, paint the doors, and replace the floor tile.
This tile is very pretty in person and it is on the ceiling. In fact all of the bathrooms have the ceiling tiled above the shower/bath area. Once we paint the rest of the space, we’ll see how the tile looks against it. I definitely want to replace the chandelier.
Look how pretty this granite is. I never thought I would like anything this dark.
Laundry Room
The fun thing about the laundry room is that it can be accessed from the Master Closet and from the back hallway! Wall paint, trim paint, door paint, cabinet paint, hardware and new floor are about it for this space for now. This is the only space that doesn’t have the upgraded granite.
Downstairs Guest Bedroom
This bedroom is located on the first floor. The projects are to paint walls, trim, doors, replace blinds with motorized shades, replace sconces, and add wood flooring.
Downstairs Guest Bathroom
This bathroom is located across the hall from the downstairs guest bedroom. Here you get a good idea of the tiled ceiling. This granite is different from the Master Bath and Kitchen, but it is really gorgeous. The projects are paint walls, trim, doors, cabinet, mirror, light fixture, new hardware, and replace flooring.
Game Room
There is even crown molding and a chair rail in the Game Room. The projects are paint the walls, paint trim, replace flooring, take down blinds and replace with motorized shades and possibly lose the fan.
Media Room
Greg is in heaven! We now have a media room! The projects are paint the walls and ceiling, replace the sconces and put new carpet down.
Upstairs Guest Bedroom
This is the room Chloe chose. She wanted to be closer to the back of the house. I promised her that I would recreate her Modern Galaxy themed bedroom in this house. New carpet, paint, and shades will take care of this room.
Jack and Jill Bath Upstairs
This is the Jack and Jill bath between the two bedrooms upstairs. Paint, new flooring, new hardware, and a frame around the mirror will definitely spruce this space up!
Guest Bedroom Upstairs
The 4th bedroom upstairs houses the pretty, yellow furniture that used to be in Chloe’s room before she decided to go modern. New paint, carpet, chandelier, and shades should do the trick.
Back Patio & Yard
I’m so excited to have an outdoor fireplace!
The yard is a perfect size for us. The yard at the previous house was just too big. We would eventually like to put in a rectangle pool and hot tub.
That’s it for the house tour! This house fits all of our current needs and our possible future needs in the event my Mom will want to move in with us.
I’m itching to start painting, but I promised Greg that I would get us completely unpacked and settled before I start on a project. The only thing that will be left in boxes will be home decor items since I’m not sure which rooms I will use them in. Currently the downstairs guest bedroom is being used as our Home Decor storage space.
I hope you enjoyed the tour. I would love to hear what you think. Have a glorious Easter and I’ll see you Monday night for Make it Pretty Monday.

Oh yes, I’m so glad you shared your photos. I agree, there are a lot of projects here but it will be such an amazing transformation and great for blogging material. The house does have amazing bones. From the walkway up to the stunning entrance and front hall to the high ceilings and lovely trim moldings. I like the kitchen layout and that stairway reminds me of some homes we looked at when we were looking at homes in Dallas. I can’t wait to follow along. I am also beyond amazed that even after moving you are still getting your blog post up in such a timely way. Cheers to you. Hope your Easter was restful and a recharge for what is ahead.

How totally exciting, Kathryn! The house is gorgeous, and you will have such fun updating it and making it your own. It’s not often that I read through a home tour completely, but I did this one! 😉 You mentioned that it will be your home for the next 7+ years. Since i’m ‘new’ to your blog, is there a reason why there might be a time frame on staying?
thededicatedhouse@gmail.com says
Thanks for taking a look, Julie! Our daughter starts Junior High in the Fall and we want to stay put until she is graduated from High School. Also, my Mom might need to eventually move in with us and this house has a second bedroom downstairs. So, we are staying in this house for at least 7 years until our daughter graduates. Hope you have a great evening.

Joanne, let me tell you, this kitchen is by far the best kitchen I have ever had! It us such a blessing! Now, to keep the island cleared off. LOL. Thanks for stopping by!

Thank you so much, Mary! I’m itching to get started, but I have to finish unpacking first. LOL. Have a great evening!

Oh my goodness, what an amazing house. I hope you’ll be really happy there.
You did make me laugh with your ‘small kitchen ‘ comment though. We UK people would think we’d died and gone to heaven with a kitchen that size!! Our kitchens are typically much much smaller and we moan about it all the time!
Can’t wait to see all those transformations you are planning!

Thanks so much, Amy! I tried to hold off on starting to paint until after I finished unpacking, but I caved and ran to Sherwin Williams yesterday. LOL. Thanks for stopping by!

Lovely home. I can’t show it to my husband since he would go ballistic about your proposed changes. He is conservative. I can’t wait to see how you do with dark granite. Hoping you can make it work since all projects are costly. Paint on!!!

Whoa! Your new home is gorgeous! The neighborhood looks so family friendly. You certainly have a lot of projects on your plate! I think it would take me years to get all of that done! The granite in the kitchen is beautiful, I will be watching to see the progress and see what you do with the place!
thededicatedhouse@gmail.com says
Thanks Chloe! The neighborhood is amazing and it’s so quiet!! I will definitely be busy for a couple of years for sure! Hopefully, I will have my first project done soon. Thanks for popping in to take a look!

Your post was most clicked at Best of the Weekend. Congratulations! Wow! What a house! But to think of allllll that painting……and all of the other things! One of the first things I did when we moved in was take down the blinds and replace them with plain white curtains so that the outside would look uniform. Then I used a double rod to add a pattern on the inside where I wanted to.
