Hello World! Welcome Friends! It’s a pretty difficult time for everybody right now, and people with kids are especially worried. Being ordered to stay in the house is one thing, but finding things to do so the kids don’t go stir crazy in a matter of days is another. If you’re unsure of what to do, below you’ll find some isolation crafts and other suggestions that could help to keep you busy.
Remember, setting up a routine and sticking to it will help massively. For example, get up at the same time each day, eat breakfast, watch a film, play a game, read a book, enjoy a ‘homeschooling session’ etc. You can obviously change up the crafts and schooling sessions each day to keep it interesting, but sticking to a similar routine will mean you don’t run out of things to do!
Art Club
Have an art club where everybody has to sit and draw or paint something. Pick a theme each day, for example, your favorite animal from a film or TV show!
Write A Story As A Family
Write a story as a family by having one family member write the first few paragraphs, and then passing it onto another family member. The only catch is, you can’t read the previous chapter! You can tell them where they have to pick up from so the story makes more sense, but be prepared to end up with the craziest story ever!
Make Posters For Your Windows
Many families are putting up colorful posters in their windows to thank hospital staff and key workers for doing a wonderful job. Rainbows are very popular.
Make Cards For Your Friends And Loved Ones
Create cards for your friends and loved ones for when all of this is over! Let them know how much you are missing them.
Make A Batch Of Playdough Or Slime
Playdough and slime is really fun, but you don’t have to buy it ready-made. Have some fun making it yourself!
Graffiti The Garden With Chalk
Make the garden a happier place to be by using chalk to decorate it.
Learn Some Origami
Origami is a very satisfying past time and your kids will love learning how to make things like fortune tellers which they can then enjoy playing with together! If you’re not sure where to start with this, you could take a look at a site like www.origami.org to help you learn the basics that you can then teach your kids during craft time.
Make Some Pretty Flowers
You might not be able to go out and buy fresh flowers right now, so how about making some pretty flowers? You can easily do this with things like kraft tape, duck tape, and washi tape, as well as a few other bits.
Create Friendship Bracelets
Your kids haven’t seen their friends for a long time, and they must miss their friends terribly. To alleviate that, why not help your kids make friendship bracelets using a variety of colorful beads? Making crafts will give them a productive distraction from missing their friends and from boredom. And when everything’s all right and they get to see their pals again, they have a cute little friendship gift to celebrate the occasion.
Perform Science Experiments
Stir your kids’ curiosity—and yours too—by doing some simple science experiments using different materials around the house. Check out the composition of wood, rocks, and flowers using a simple microscope for kids that can easily use. You can also make small, safe projects like making fizzy drinks or drying ice bubbles. The key here is to learn while having fun!
Get Creative With Your Old Boxes
Your old boxes can be used to make dens, or you could all become robots. Use your imagination!
Other Things You Can Do:
- Get rid of clothes you no longer wear
- Find 3 old things each to donate to a charity
- Create an obstacle course in the garden
- Do one or two homeschooling lessons per day (but don’t stress about it)
- Bake cakes/bread/cookies/anything delicious
- Fun science experiments
- Yoga/meditation exercises
- Have a lazy duvet day and don’t feel guilty!
